LAWRENCEVILLE - A 32-year-old Gainesville man has died from injuries sustained in a collision with a tractor-trailer last week, bringing the total number of motor vehicle fatalities in Gwinnett County this year to 71, according to the Gwinnett County Medical Examiner's Office.
Authorities said Kevin Larry Tanner died Wednesday at Gwinnett Medical Center. Tanner was driving a Chevrolet Silverado north on Harbins Road on Nov. 2 when he attempted to turn left onto Ga. 316 West. A tractor-trailer traveling east on Ga. 316 collided with the truck in the intersection. Tanner was not wearing his seat belt, and he was ejected upon impact, said Officer Darren Moloney, spokesman for the Gwinnett County Police Department. He was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Charges are pending against the tractor-trailer driver, 28-year-old Theodore Banks of Jonesboro, for allegedly running a red light and causing the accident, Moloney said. Last year, there were 88 motor vehicle fatalities - a record number for Gwinnett County, said Chief Forensic Investigator Ted Bailey of the medical examiner's office. In 2003, there were 78 traffic fatalities; in 2002, there were 71.More like this story
