Resident chases away burglar

•DULUTH - A woman stumbled across a burglar in her Gwinnett Crossing apartment Saturday after she went to investigate a strange noise in her living room.

Police believe the burglar climbed up to a second-floor balcony and broke out a glass window to crawl inside. The suspect was going through a desk in the living room at about 7:30 a.m. when the female resident went to investigate, according to a police report.

The suspect's back was turned and he didn't notice the woman, so she crept quietly back to her bedroom, locked the door and woke her husband. The couple stayed in the room until the suspect pried open the door.

The husband chased the intruder to a red Ford Expedition driven by a skinny white woman, the police report stated. The husband was able to give police the tag number. Officers determined it had been stolen last month.
