DULUTH - Finding common ground with voters helped Marsha Anderson Bomar unseat long-time councilwoman Maxine Garner Tuesday in the Duluth city elections, Bomar said.
Bomar garnered 364 votes to Garner's 295 to win a four-year term in Post 1. In Post 2, incumbent Jim Dugan beat Greg Whitlock by a vote of 355 to 305. City clerk Teresa Lynn said 670 people went to the polls Tuesday. "It's always hard to beat an incumbent, but I was hopeful," Bomar said, reached by phone Tuesday celebrating her victory at Scoops on the Square. "I think there are a lot of issues that the city has to address. I think by talking to a lot of people in the different neighborhoods, we found a lot of common ground on things that concerned us and ideas that we had for how to address the issues." Bomar said she hopes to incorporate more citizen input into City Council meetings and hold regular public sessions. Jim Hall was unopposed with 526 votes, Lynn said.More like this story
