•LAWRENCEVILLE - Authorities suspect someone deliberately set a fire Monday morning that destroyed a vacant house at the corner of Arc Way and Pleasant Hill Road in Lawrenceville.
Firefighters arrived at the two-story home at 12:53 a.m. to find heavy fire in the garage. Flames spread to the second floor and eventually burned through the roof, said Thomas Rutledge, spokesman for the Gwinnett County Fire Department. The blaze was brought under control by 1:52 a.m.
Investigators believe the fire started in a vehicle parked in the garage. They are trying to determine who the vehicle belongs to and why it was there, Rutledge said. A witness reported seeing someone working on the car earlier in the day.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Georgia Arson Control hotline at 800-282-5804, which offers a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of persons responsible for arson.
