New medical college celebrates opening
SUWANEE - Georgia's newest medical school, the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine-Georgia Campus, is celebrating its first semester with two events this week. The college will host a white coat ceremony today at 2 p.m. in which the college's first osteopathic medical students will receive their white coats. The traditional ceremony will symbolically mark their entrance into the medical field. On Monday, the college will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. U.S. Rep. John Linder will deliver the keynote address. The college will host a reception immediately after, and attendees are invited to take tours of its facility. Students officially started at the college on Aug. 10, when the 86-student inaugural class arrived on campus for orientation. The Georgia branch is an extension of the 100-year-old Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. The college is located at 625 Old Peachtree Road in Suwanee.
