Police arrest man driving stolen car
•NORCROSS - A man fled from police who were trying to pull him over Saturday for allegedly driving a stolen car, according to a police report.
An officer on patrol ran the tag of a gold Nissan Maxima that was speeding on Jones Mill Road and discovered it was stolen. Police tried to block in the car, but the driver drove onto railroad tracks that run parallel to Buford Highway. The car went down a steep embankment and crashed at the bottom.
The driver then jumped out and began running, but he fell down and police were able to apprehend him. The man, Robert Lee Smith, claimed he didn't know the car was stolen, the report stated. Smith said he ran from police because he was afraid. Smith was charged with theft by receiving and obstructing a law enforcement officer.
