Man allegedly assaulted by friend over tools
WINDER A man was charged with aggravated assault and battery after he reportedly got in a fight with a man who was storing tools in his garage.
Troy Lewis, 39, of Winder was holding a friend's tools in his garage, then called another friend May 21 to get them out of his house, according to a police report.
When the man went over about 5:45 p.m.
and asked Lewis where some of the wrenches were, the report said, Lewis punched him, knocking the man to the ground, then hit him with a board.
Lewis told police he only hit the man after he had swung at him and did not have a board. Lewis's wife said the man was intoxicated when he arrived, and both she and her husband asked him repeatedly to leave.
The man had a laceration on his face, a swollen lip and scrapes and contusions on his legs, the report said. Lewis was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and battery, according to the report.
Two gas stations burglarized
BETHLEHEM Two gas stations were burglarized early Monday morning.
Police responded to an alarm at the BP Food Shop at 767 Christmas Ave. at 5:43 a.m. and found the left front door shattered with a large concrete block lying inside the store, according to a police report.
The cash register drawer was found open on the floor behind the register, according to the report. Police also found tire tracks and footprints behind the store but could not obtain any fingerprints.
No items were reported missing.
At 5:55 a.m., a witness called to report a burglary in progress at the Shell Station at 830 Loganville Highway, according to a police report.
The witness told police he saw two white men running toward a wooded area behind the station. Police found a carton of cigarettes in the woods and saw a broken window at the store, with a rock on top of the broken glass.
