LAWRENCEVILLE - Today ushers in Memorial Day weekend, the unofficial kickoff of the summer season, and Gwinnettians have their pick of a host of ways to celebrate.
A patriotic performance by the U.S. Air Force Reserve's Concert Band in Suwanee will launch the weekend of festivities. The free outdoor concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. today at Town Center Park. Admission tickets may be picked up at the event. Parking near the venue will be available, and there will also be shuttle service provided from Shadowbrook Baptist Church, 4187 Suwanee Dam Road. The concert will go on, rain or shine. The 43-piece Concert Band will perform pieces from a repertoire that ranges from patriotic music and Sousa marches to Broadway showtunes and other popular music. The event is being presented by the Gwinnett Daily Post and the city of Suwanee. Lawn chairs, blankets and food are welcome at the performance, but alcohol is not permitted. Food will also be available for purchase during the event from Log Cabin BBQ, Ippolito's Restaurant, Boomer's Ice Cream and Subway.More like this story
