Ice cream man charged with firing gun
NORCROSS - An ice cream van driver was arrested on Friday after he allegedly fired gunshots into a lawn on Sugarwood Terrace in Norcross.
After a neighbor called to complain about someone firing gunshots in the area, police arrived to find 68-year-old Bounmy Thepmany standing near his ice cream van wearing just pajama pants and a belt. When asked if he had been shooting, Thepmany admitted firing at least five rounds into various locations throughout the lawn, according to police reports. Thepmany said he was upset about someone breaking into his vehicle.
Police found a loaded rifle in the van. Thepmany was charged with discharging a firearm near a roadway.
Four accused of fleeing police in stolen car
NORCROSS - Four people were arrested Friday after allegedly fleeing from police in a stolen car at the Super 8 Motel at 5150 Willow Oak Trail.
A stolen brown Mercedes was spotted at 11:30 p.m. at the Super 8 motel. Police placed the vehicle under surveillance and waited for the suspects to return. Several people emerged from one of the motel rooms, and four got into the Mercedes.
The driver, later identified as James W. Rentiers III, began ramming police cars in an attempt to get away. After exiting onto Indian Trail Lilburn Road, Rentiers tried to run several patrol cars off the road before the Mercedes broke down, police reports said. Rentiers then allegedly got out and ran, fighting with three officers before they were able to subdue him with a Taser stun gun.
Rentiers faces numerous charges for fleeing from police and possessing a stolen vehicle. The passengers in the car, 24-year-old Curtis Hold Underwood, of unknown residence, 25-year-old Stephanie Jane Gray of Savannah and 40-year-old Darryl Ronald Jones of Norcross were charged with misdemeanor possession of methamphetamine.
