Mary Emma Tanner, retired Elementary Art Teacher in the Columbus, Georgia Schools died, Sunday, May 15, 2005. Funeral Services will be held 3:00 P.M. Wednesday May 18, 2005 in the Lawrenceville Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home. Rev. Davis Chappell, Dr. J. Douglas Gibson and Rev. Jim White will officiate. Interment will follow at the Shadowlawn Cemetery in Lawrenceville. Miss. Tanner was born August 3, 1914 in Lawrenceville, Georgia, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Tanner. She was a graduate of Wesleyan Conservatory and received her masters degree in arts from Peabody College, Nashville, Tennessee in 1952. She was a member of the Lawrenceville First United Methodist Church, Life Member of the Georgia Association of Educators. Member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Beta Pho Chapter; Georgia Art Education Association; National Art Education Association. She was in who's who in American Education in 1960 and 1961. She is survived by: Sisters-in-law: Ann Tanner, Nashville, TN; Margaret Tanner, Lawrenceville, GA; Nieces and Nephews: Joe Ford, Dacula; Mary Ann Young, Little Rock, AR; Elizabeth Tanner, Nashville, TN; William M. Tanner, Nashville, TN; Rachel Bronnum, Lawrenceville; William G. Tanner, Duluth; Peggy Weiss, Atlanta; Emily Tanner, Athens; Nancy Sloss, North Carolina; Marian Tanner, Lawrenceville; Susan Hosford, Snellville; Several Great Nieces and Great Nephews also survive.
