Sheriff confirms murder-suicide
GARNER VALLEY, Calif. - The sheriff confirmed Wednesday that the deaths of six family members in a remote ranch home were a murder-suicide carried out by a district attorney's investigator.
Sheriff Bob Doyle said David McGowan, 44, went on his killing spree in the middle of the night Tuesday, shooting each victim in the head as they slept.
The victims were his 14-year-old son, Chase; daughters Paige, 10, and Rayne, 8; his wife, Karen, 42; and his mother, Angelia McGowan, 75. The McGowans have an older son stationed in Iraq.
Prosecutors: Man said he killed girls
WAUKEGAN, Ill. - The man accused of stabbing to death his 8-year-old daughter and her best friend hunted his child down in a park in a fit of rage because she was supposed to be grounded for stealing money, prosecutors said Wednesday.
A judge denied bail for 34-year-old ex-convict Jerry Hobbs after prosecutors said he admitted in videotaped and written statements to beating and stabbing his daughter Laura Hobbs and 9-year-old Krystal Tobias on Mother's Day.
Defense: Claims of torture ignored
ALEXANDRIA, Va. - FBI agents who obtained a confession from Ahmed Omar Abu Ali, 24, of Falls Church, Va., that he joined al-Qaida and plotted to assassinate President Bush ignored his claims of being tortured by Saudi authorities, according to defense motions.
Man sought in boy's kidnapping
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Authorities are trying to determine whether Ivan Villa, 22, accused of kidnapping his slain wife's 16-month-old son, was in Mexico or the United States.
Ruidoso, N.M., police Detective Jim Biggs said Wednesday that authorities considered Villa a ''person of interest'' in his wife's strangling death.
