Gas leak causes store evacuations

SUWANEE - A gas leak in a strip shopping center led to the evacuation of several businesses Wednesday.

At 4:52 p.m., the Gwinnett County Fire Department responded to a report of a landscaping crew hitting a four-inch gas main, said Thomas Rutledge, spokesman for GCFD.

The main was located on West Peachtree Industrial Boulevard at 4485 Tench Road. The landscaping crew hit the main with a Bobcat.

No one was hurt, but several businesses were evacuated. No roads were closed.

Sugar Hill Gas Company responded and the leak was under control at 5:45 p.m., Rutledge said.
