Prince Harry begins military career at academy

LONDON - The rebellious Prince Harry is not bucking one family tradition - he began a military career Sunday at an elite British academy.

Prince Charles' youngest son enrolled at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in Surrey, southern England, for a 44-week officer training course.

'Superman' actor receives degree posthumously

NEW YORK - Christopher Reeve will be posthumously awarded an honorary degree at Stony Brook University's commencement on May 20.

Reeve, who starred in four ''Superman'' films from 1978 to 1987, died Oct. 10 at age 52 of complications from an infection.

His Doctor of Humane Letters degree will be accepted by Stony Brook graduate student Brooke Ellison, who struggles with paralysis.

Car believed owned by late pope to be sold

AUBURN, Ind. - The only car Pope John Paul II was believed to have owned is up for auction again, and this time the seller expects it to fetch $1.5 million to $5 million.

The light blue 1975 Ford Escort GL was bought at auction in Auburn in 1996 for $102,000 by Illinois businessman Jim Rich, who is selling the vehicle.

Dean Kruse, president and owner of auction firm Kruse International in Auburn, said the car could bring a much higher price when it is put on the block June 3 to 4 at the Mandalay Bay hotel in Las Vegas.

Talmadge, ex-wife of U.S. senator, dies at age 81

ATLANTA - Betty Shingler Talmadge, ex-wife of the late U.S. Sen. Herman E. Talmadge, died Saturday following a long illness. She was 81.

Services for Talmadge were scheduled for today in Ashburn, which is about 80 miles south of Macon.
