Prep Roundup: Norcross captures No. 2 seed in 7-AAAAA

NORCROSS - Norcross ended its Region 7-AAAAA schedule on Friday night with an 11-6 win over Collins Hill. The win gives Norcross the second-seed in the region while Collins Hill finishes as the fourth seed.

Chris Maready allowed seven hits over six innings to get the win while Cory Harmon was 3-for-4 at the plate. Drew Morgan and Richard Pirkle also each went 2-for-4 for Norcross (21-4, 8-2).

Collins Hill played the game under protest when a Norcross player was ejected in the bottom of the third for malicious contact on a play at home plate but was allowed to return to the game. If the protest is upheld, the game will be resumed in the top of the fourth with Norcross ahead 7-1.

Norcross will host Harrison next Friday in the first round while Collins Hill will travel to Kennesaw Mountain.

Dacula 3, Duluth 2

DACULA - Josh Colsson delivered an RBI double with two outs in the bottom of the fourth to break a 2-2 tie as Dacula nipped Duluth 3-2 on Friday night.

Starter Matt Gloyd went five innings with three hits, five strikeouts and two runs allowed for the win while Bryan Fillingim pitched the last two innings for the save.

Colsson led the offense for Dacula (13-11, 5-5), going 2-for-3 with an RBI while Tony Baker, Bryant Jones, Shannon Wilkerson, Jeremie Tice and Eric Pease each had a hit.

Parkview 9, Shiloh 2

LILBURN - Michael Langley was 3-for-4 with a three-run homer and Scott Steele was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs as Parkview cruised past Shiloh 9-2 on Friday night.

Leo White went 3-for-3 with three RBIs while Craig Brisson was 4-for-5 with an RBI as Parkview (21-5) pounded out 19 hits. Jarrett Coker (6-3) went seven innings for the win, allowing five hits, two walks, one earned run with three strikeouts.

Central 21, Berkmar 6

LILBURN - Central Gwinnett closed out its season with a 21-6 eruption over Berkmar on Friday. Central's offense forged 18 hits on the night.

Kevin Greene had four hits for Central (10-16, 5-9) while Jorge Virguez added three more. Alex Samples hit his first homer of the year, a two-run shot, while Manny Rodriguez (4-5) pitched all five innings for the win.

Peachtree Ridge 3,

Northview 2

DULUTH - Peachtree Ridge won its first Region 7-AAAAA game and sixth overall of the season on Friday night with a 3-2 win over Northview.

A.J. Herron allowed two hits over six innings for the win while Brandon Blake pitched the seventh inning for the save. Aaron Schmitz led the offense with an RBI single.

Killian Hill wins GCAA championship

CONYERS - Killian Hill swept People's Baptist in two games on Friday night to capture the Georgia Christian Athletic Association Championship at Thompson Park. The title was the third for the Cougars and first since 2002.

Killian Hill trailed People's Baptist 7-2 in Game 1 before rallying for a 9-8 win. Drew Steckenrider (3-0) pitched five innings of relief for the win, allowing five hits, three runs (two earned), two walks and one strikeout. Brad Whayne went 4-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI while Aaron Parks was 2-for-3. Allan Bailey, the tournament MVP, also helped by leading off the fourth inning with a solo home run.

Bailey also pitched a complete game in the nightcap, surrendering seven hits, four runs (one earned), with two strikeouts and no walks as the Cougars (15-2) capped off the sweep with a 6-4 win.

Whayne was 2-for-4 with an RBI while Bailey, Strassberger and George Campian each added a hit. Parks also played well defensively at third base with nine assists.
