Youth Roundup: Sidewinders win East Georgia Challenge

The Shiloh Sidewinders won the Pendleton East Georgia Challenge on April 17 in Conyers.

In the championship game, the Sidewinders fought off a tough Mill Creek team to win in extra innings, 5-4.

Team members are: Phillip Bates, Caleb Buxton, Clay Garner, Adam Hall, David Lockwood, Kenny Miller, Kyle Nerbonne, Doug Philpott, Devin Stanton, Travis Tarleton and Nicholas Woodward. The Sidewinders are coached by Joel Garner, Mickey Bates and Scott

13U Georgia Stars win

state title

The 13U Georgia Stars basketball team won the state title recently with a 73-70 win over the Atlanta Celtics. Brian Williams, of Richards Middle School, was the tournament MVP.

Team members are: Williams, Fabian Cook, Julian Johnson-Dukes, Kwabena Marfo-Frimpong, Erig Goggins, Darrin Hancock, Hunter Livingston, Vincent McAllister, Corbyn Moye, Chuka Okakpu, Mykequis Thompson and Devonta White.

The team is coached by Walter White, Jarrod Cook and James Williams.

Georgia Elite wins

Troup County Classic

The 12U Georgia Elite girls basketball team won the Troup County Classic recently by going 5-0 in the 13U

division.

The squad is now 24-2 on the year.

Team members are: Alex Abraham, Alexandria Armah, Katie Carroll, Jordi Cook, Baleigh Coley, Jessika Crews, Abby Slocumb, Maggie Smith, KaVonne Towns and Stephanie Wheeler. The team is coached by Johnny Reeves.

Inner Strength wins

state championship

The Inner Strength 12-year-old AAU basketball team recently won the state championship by beating the Atlanta Celtics 50-39.

The squad has five players from Gwinnett County: Brandon Hayman, Corey Heyward, Tyler Gaskins, Drakkar Sanders and Marquise Wise.

GYMNASTICS

Jackson, Moredock take first place at Prep Optionals

Eboni Jackson placed first in the all-around of the 9-10 age group with a score of 37.40 and Mallory Moredock won the 7-8 all-around with a score of 35.925 on April 2 at the AAU Prep Optionals meet in

Carrollton.

Jackson was also second in the vault, third in the beam and the floor and fourth in the bars.

Moredock was first on the vault and the floor and second on the bars and the beam.

SOFTBALL

Lady Lions win Battle at Peachtree City

The Peachtree Ridge Lady Lions 10U softball tam won first place at the Battle at Peachtree City USFA fastpitch tournament on April 23.

The Lady Lions have now gone 8-0 in their past two tournaments, outscoring their opponents 57-10 in 40 innings, striking out 62 and allowing no earned runs.

Team members are: Caitlyn Cooper, Madison Grindstaff, Kelly Ibele, Noelle Kendig, Kendall McKinney, Sammy Pierannunzi, Lucy Riddle, Sarah Sterner, Kelsey Summers and Sarah Walker.

The team is coached by Curtis Walker and David Cooper.

12U Soaring Eagles

The Collins Hill 12U Soaring Eagles softball team placed second in the recent Camfast King of the Mountain tournament. They also won the NSA Lanier Classic tournament and finished first in the Roswell Classic ASA national qualifier as well.

The team members are: Savanna Berkhiser, Emily Buck, Anna Burdette, Lauren Court, Channing Kirkman, Jessica Neidigh, Alex Raines, Gracie Shelton, Shelley Sweatt and Darsey Walker.

The team is coached by Dave Sweatt, Doug Court, Ron Berkhiser and Jack Shelton.

Ness places second at

Tournament of Champions

Chip Ness, 9, placed second out of 54 participants in the 75-pound division of the Tournament of Champions in Columbus, Ohio on April 23.

Ness resides in Snellville.
