Prep Roundup: Martin's grand slam lifts Duluth

DULUTH - Duluth trailed Forsyth Central 14-11 going into the bottom of the seventh, but Andrew Martin's grand slam erased that deficit to give the Wildcats a 15-14 win on Friday night.

Martin, who finished with six RBIs, also homered in the fifth inning. Patrick Brock, Brad Hall and Ross Book, who finished with three RBIs, also added home runs in the fifth inning. Duluth (10-2) had five round-trippers on the night. Picking up the win in relief was Garrett Lussi.


Berkmar 5, South Cobb 0

AUSTELL - The Berkmar Patriots (5-4) only managed three hits on Friday night, but they made them count as they posted a 5-0 over South Cobb.

Joe Hendricks had one of those hits for two RBIs, while Nick Crabtree and Kellen Gross each added a hit. Starter Jacob Matheny (3-0) went the distance, allowing five hits while striking out eight.

Oconee Co. 8, Dacula 6

WATKINSVILLE - Oconee County scored seven unearned runs on five Dacula errors and defeated the Falcons 8-6 on Friday night.

Dacula's offense produced 13 hits, led by three hits and an RBI from Jeremy Tice. Shannon Wilkerson added two hits and an RBI while Eric Pease finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a homer. Dre Gibbs also had two hits for Dacula (3-5) while reliever Matt Gloyd was charged with the loss.

South Forsyth 13,

South Gwinnett 10

SNELLVILLE - South Gwinnett fell to 3-6 on Friday night with a 13-10 loss to South Forsyth. Steven Currie (0-1) took the loss for the Comets.

Jacob Williams went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer while Zac Bui was 2-for-5 with two runs. Jackson Dean and Rob Flanigan each had two hits with a double and also Brian Cash and Neil Rollins finished with two hits for the Comets.

Mill Creek 11,

Winder-Barrow 3

WINDER - Andy Keller went 2-for-3 with four RBIs on Friday night as Mill Creek defeated Winder-Barrow 11-3 in a non-region game.

Matt McNeese and Spencer Hanson each went 3-for-4 as Mill Creek improved to 8-3. Karl Schaefer notched the win on the mound, striking out five in four innings of work.

Buford 12, GAC 9

BUFORD - Buford improved to 9-1 on Friday night by holding on for a 12-9 win over Greater Atlanta Christian. Mark Swanson pitched five innings to pick up the win while Justin Curry pitched two perfect innings of relief, with three strikeouts, for the save.

Cory Allen went 2-for-4 with three RBIs for Buford (4-0 in Region 8-AA) while Blake Skipper was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Chase Burnette finished 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Providence 3,

Dawson Co. 0

DAWSONVILLE - Providence received a complete-game shutout from Collin McHugh on Friday night as the Stars blanked Dawson County 3-0. McHugh struck out seven, walked none and allowed just one hit over seven innings.

Braden Langley started things offensively for the Stars (9-1, 3-0 Region 8-AA) with an RBI single in the first inning. Chris Waites also went 2-for-3 while McHugh added a solo home run in the fifth inning.


South Forsyth 3,

Collins Hill 1

CUMMING - Collins Hill dropped a Region 7-AAAAA game on Friday night with a 3-1 loss at South Forsyth.

Buford 5, Lumpkin Co. 1

DAHLONEGA - Morgan White scored four goals on Friday night to lead Buford to a 5-1 win over Lumpkin County in Area 8-AA/A action.

Abby Leiker scored Buford's other goal as the Wolves (5-4-1, 4-2) had 26 shots on goal. Maria Petroni added two assists and White finished with one.

Winder-Barrow 7,

Apalachee 0

WINDER - Lauren Langford had three goals and an assist on Friday night, leading Winder-Barrow to a 7-0 shutout of Apalachee in Region 8-AAA play. Winder-Barrow improved to 5-4-1 overall and 2-0 in the region.

Katelyn Crane also had two goals and two assists while Kaylee Hudson and Chandar Yang each added a goal. Caitlin Hentenaar also had an assist while Laura Ginn and Kaylee Arther split time at keeper for the shutout.


South Forsyth 5,

Collins Hill 4

CUMMING - Collins Hill suffered its first loss of the season on Friday night with a 5-4 loss at South Forsyth. Collins Hill trailed 4-1 with 18 minutes left and pulled to within 4-3, but got no closer.

Timmy Jones scored two goals to lead the offense for Collins Hill (5-1-2, 0-1-2) while Michael Bonilla and Davis Bortis each scored one.

Buford 4, Lumpkin Co. 2

DAHLONEGA - Buford's Misael Martinez scored three goals on Friday night in the Wolves' 4-2 win over Lumpkin County.

David Arroyo added the other goal as Buford evened its record at 5-5.


Killian Hill 6, GGC 5

LILBURN - Anna Niarchos of Killian Hill scored in the bottom of the seventh to lift the Cougars (4-3) past Greater Gwinnett Christian 6-5 on Friday night. Niarchos scored from second base when a wild pitch became stuck in the backstop.

Niarchos finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs while Cheney Brinkley was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Rachel Niarchos picked up the win on the mound, allowing nine hits, three earned runs and striking out three over seven innings while going 2-for-4 at the plate with a run.
