Gwinnett gets HUD grants

LAWRENCEVILLE - Gwinnett County will receive $6.4 million in U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development grant money to fund programs that assist low-income and minority families with down payments, develop urban communities and expand affordable housing.

The money is part of a $54.7 million statewide grant that will be spent on programs, including the American Dream Down Payment Initiative, HOME, Housing Opportunities for Persons With AIDS, community block grants and emergency shelter grants, Sen. Saxby Chambliss' office announced Wednesday.
