Mr. William G. Banick, age 89, of Buford, GA passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2005. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Roberta Banick, a former organist and pianist at the Prince Of Peace Catholic Church. He is survived by his: Daughter: Rebecca Banick Mabry, Buford, GA; Son: William M. “Bill” Banick, Gainesville, GA; Grandson: William Matthew Banick, Athens, GA; Granddaughter: Julie M. Banick Wilson, Athens, GA; Brothers: Cyril Banick, Augusta, GA, George Banick, Oakridge, TN. Mr. Banick was born in Pennsylvania in 1916. He graduated from the University of Scranton with a Bachelor's Degree and earned a Master's Degree in Physics from Union College in New York. He was brought to Georgia, as one of the cadre of the Army Air Force. After his service in the Army, he went on to pursue many things. He earned a law degree from the Atlanta Law School. He practiced law for a few years and then decided to change careers and become a teacher. He taught Physics at Georgia Tech and Emory University and he taught Math at Georgia State. He also taught at North Carolina State University where he was part of a team who worked on a nuclear reactor project. He later moved back to Georgia and became a mathematics and physics teacher in the Atlanta School System. He felt one of his greatest accomplishments, however, was the work he did at Harvard University as a pilot teacher and counselor. During this time, he helped develop Project Physics, which is a nationally known project for high school curriculums. He was also one of the original parishioners of the Prince Of Peace Catholic Church. Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2005, at 1:00 p.m. at the Prince Of Peace Catholic Church with Deacon Bill Speed and Father Fred Wendel serving as Celebrants. Interment in Broadlawn Memorial Gardens, Buford, GA. In lieu of flowers, you may send a contribution to the Prince Of Peace Catholic Church Building Fund, Buford, GA.
