Gwinnett Arena bolsters this year's concert lineup

DULUTH - As Stevie Nicks and Don Henley prepare to take the stage tonight at the Arena at Gwinnett Center, the venue is busy filling its already impressive schedule with the biggest names it can find, recently adding the Backstreet Boys to its lineup for the summer.

The Backstreet Boys will stop at the arena as part of the band's worldwide "Never Gone" tour on July 24. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. this Saturday and cost $37 and $55. The group returned from a three-year break this month with the release of "Never Gone." The album's first single, "Incomplete," remains among the top 10 on Billboard's mainstream Top 40 chart.

On Sept. 13, Latin music superstar Marc Anthony is scheduled to perform with Alejandro Fernandez and Chayanne, according to the music Web site www.livedaily.com .

These concerts are additions to an already busy lineup for the year. Redneck comedian Jeff Foxworthy is coming July 15. On July 16, the "American Idols Live" tour will give Gwinnett residents a chance to see performances by the television show's top 10 contestants this season, including "Idol" winner Carrie Underwood and runner-up Bo Bice.

On Aug. 5, Gigantour, featuring Megadeth, Dream Theater and seven other bands, will rock the arena. A few days later, the venue will change gears to bring The Hundred Acre Woods come to life Aug. 11-14 for a presentation of "Disney Live Winnie the Pooh." Tickets are $15 to $45.

Tickets are on sale for the Hilton Skating and Gymnastics Spectacular coming to the arena Oct. 12. The star-filled show will include performances by Brian Boitano, Carly Patterson, Shannon Miller and more, with special musical guest Gwinnett's own Diana DeGarmo. Tickets start at $20.

Today's concert by Stevie Nicks and Don Henley will begin at 8 p.m. The concert will showcase each singer's solo career as well as songs from Fleetwood Mac and the Eagles. The Leather and Lace Tour, named for the singers' 1981 duet of the same name, ends June 19 after only 10 stops across the country; Nicks will kick off her Gold Dust solo tour five days later.
