GAINESVILLE - Traffic could shift today on construction-clogged Ga. Highway 53, McEver Road.
If weather allows, traffic will shift and will be split using three of four lanes of Ga. Highway 53 from Ga. Highway 369/Browns Bridge Road to Dawsonville Highway, Georgia DOT District Engineer Russell McMurry said.
"This traffic shift is one of the last stages of construction," McMurry said. "Both lanes toward State Route 369 will be open for use Thursday. Only one lane toward State Route 53/Dawsonville Highway will be open Thursday. Even after we split traffic, we will still have some work to do to finish the northbound lanes and the median."
Construction on the 2.05- mile long section of Ga. 53 began in January of 2003. The estimated construction cost is $8.2 million.
McMurry said that if rain disrupts the road striping, the stretch will open next Tuesday.
