Youth roundup: Mill Creek 9U team wins county title

The 9U Mill Creek Hawks won the Greater Gwinnett Baseball League championship on June 13.

The Hawks defeated North Gwinnett, Dacula, Grayson, Mountain Park and Norcross to advance to the championship game, where they defeated Collins Hill in back-to-back games to take home the title.

The Hawks then won the Sandlot Series tourney in Austell.

Team members are: Trevor Ezell, Tyler Shireman, Justin Edwards, Josh Logan, Johnathan Pickens, Blake Nichols, Max Ford, Andrew Mozingo, Bobby Tippett, Dylan Gibeau and Joey Bart. The teams is coached by Dave Nichols, Scott Mozingo, Billy Ford and Phillip Shireman.


Peachtree Ridge wins

state title

The Peachtree Ridge 10U Lions won the USSSA AA state title last weekend at E.R. Snell Park in Snellville.

The Lions went undefeated in the tournament and beat Carrollton 7-3 in the finals.

Team members are: Garry Gwaltney, Christopher Furter, Chris Wagner, Cody Foisie, Blake Watkins, John Roark, Josh Brickell, Gregory Burkell, Cooper Burdick, Price Deutsch and Tyler Haswell.

Collins Hill wins

Hebron Invitational

The Collins Hill Minor All-Star baseball team won the Hebron Invitational tournament recently, beating Dacula American 9-8 in the championship game.

Tommy McBride's single up the middle scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth.

Team members are: McBride, Spanky McFarland, Ben Wicker, Ethan Mott, Brian Noll, Chris Clark, Jake Rall, Nate Williams, Collin Rodgers, Josh Osburn, Blake Pulliam and Nate Williams.

Mill Creek club wins

T-Ball championship

The champions of the 2005 Mill Creek Athletic Association T-ball league finished with an overall record of 15-2 on the year.

Team members are: Will Sowders, Logan Scott, Tyler Nielsen, Matthew Olsen, Ben Hollenbeck, Travis Reppert, Nicholas Marbut, Colin Roberson, Joshua Ramirez, Alex Markham, Steven Casey and Nick Watson.

The team is coached by Billy Sowders.


Grayson 14U wins

third straight tourney

The Grayson girls went undefeated and took first place in all three tournaments they entered this summer. They won the South Gwinnett Summer Classic, the Duluth Pre Tri-County tournament and the Collins Hill Tri-County tournament.

Team members are: Alyssa Balestrieri, Taylor Donahoo, Brittney Dyer, Madison Gaubert, Colleen Leheny, Rachel Ludick, Samantha McNutt, Taylor Pitts, Meredith Price, Jessica Self, Lisa Shaw, Megan Stephens and Emily Thayer.

The team is coached by Allen Dyer, Brian McNutt, Mark Ludick and the manager is Lee Shaw.

The squad dedicated its perfect season to the memory of Bruce Self, dedicated coach, father, brother and friend.

North Gwinnett Tsunami wins state title

The North Gwinnett Tsunami won the ISA 12U B state tournament last weekend in Hampton.

The team, out of Suwanee, went undefeated in the 17-team tournament.

Team members are: Cara Blenke, Anna Leigh Easterling, Jennifer Gray, Sade' Johnson, Alex McDavid, Madyson McKinney, Meg McWilliams, Amelia Palmer, Charlotte Richardson, Brianna Stewart and Christi Wall.

The team is coached by John McDavid and assisted by David Easterling and Tim Wall.

Collins Hill 18U wins

tri-county title

The Collins Hill Eagles 18U softball team won the Pre Tri-county championship on June 14 and then turned around and won the Tri-County championship on June 25, beating Dacula 3-2 in eight innings.

The team members are: Sarah Bianchi, Lea Dashiell, Lauren Dunford, Kaleigh Dyer, Emily Gillis, Nicki Houghton, Chelsea Knowles, Holly Lautzenhiser, Jessica Mauldin, Rachel Riley and Chelsea Tiller.

The team is coached by Steve Tiller, Frank Bianchi and Kim Dunford.

Georgia Classics 16U win ISA state tournament

The Georgia Classics 16U fastpitch softball team won the ISA state tournament in McDonough. The Classics, with girls from Grayson, Snellville, Winder, Loganville and Jefferson, went undefeated in five games and only allowed four runs.

The team members are: Emily Martin, Lindsay Brown, Ashleigh Smith, Liza Rackett, Haley Hutchison, Ashley Staton, Hannah McKay, Jessica Buseick, Jessica Potts, Amber Russel and Haley Leissner.

The coaches are Mark Hutchison, Steve Hart, Mike McKay and Jeff Wooten.

Elite Panthers win

state tournament

The Mountain Park 12U Elite Panthers travel team recently won the state FSA tournament in Griffin, winning the championship game 1-0 in extra innings.

Team members are: Stephanie Wagner, Jolie Barter, Katie Block, Kayla Jones, Haley Jones, Greer Freeman, Carrie Ann Bullard, Taylor Wolfe, Summer Rose and Jamie Cyrus.

The team is coached by John Rose and Mark Rose.


Two Dolphins win NGSL pentathlon titles

Dacula Dolphin swimmers Frederique Lefebvre (11-12 girls) and Owen Chikazawa (15-18 boys) repeated as champions of the NGSL Pentathlon. Other Dolphin swimmers finishing in the top 10 were Alex Lowery (seventh), Andrew Johnson (third), Alaina Plummer (seventh), Jacob Oertley (second), Shelby Chikazawa (seventh) and Jillian Long (eighth).
