Ruth McNabb Walker, 88, of Murphy, NC died Wednesday (Feb. 16, 2005) in a Murphy care facility. A native and lifetime resident of Cherokee County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Milton and Rosa Clonts McNabb. She was a graduate of Western Carolina Teachers College. Ruth was a retired elementary school teacher, having taught in New Port News, VA and for many years in the Cherokee County School System. She was a member of the Murphy First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by one sister, Mattie Lou Duvall and four brothers, Guy, Clyde, Clifford, and Ersa McNabb. Surviving are her husband of 64 years, Lillard R. Walker; a daughter, Gail Stansell and husband, Bill of Lawrenceville, GA; a sister, Pearl Woodard of Murphy; several nieces and nephews; and a faithful caregiver, Gladys Ware. Services at 11:00 AM Saturday (Feb. 19) in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with Dr. Woodrow Busch officiating. Burial in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers: Mike McNabb, Robert Payne, Terry Waggoner, Chad McNabb, Daniel McNabb, Greg Swain, and Clarence Pack. John Jordan as honorary pallbearer.
