Mary Thornton Haney, 87, of Buford, died Friday, February 11, 2005 at her home following an extended illness. A native and lifelong resident of Hall County, she was the daughter of the late Washington and Lula Thornton. She was a homemaker and a member of New Bethany Baptist Church in Buford. In the 1950's children up and down Holiday Road could be found waiting on her doorstep, hoping for her homemade biscuits. She and her husband were campers spending as much as 10 weeks every summer at Cooper's Creek Campground near Dahlonega. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Pat Johnson; sisters, LouAnn Brogdon, Estelle Weaver, Lula Mae Fowler, Minnie Thornton; brother, R.W. Thornton. Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Allen Haney; daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and Harry Compton, Buford, Pinkie and George Pilgrim, Royston; sons and daughters-in-law, Bubby and Teresa Haney, Lawrenceville, Butch and Tammy Haney, Buford; son-in-law, Sam Johnson, Canon; grandchildren, Kirk Compton, Buford, Lorilee Compton, Buford; Trish Johnson, Canon; Shawn and Jenny Haney, Dacula; Stephanie and Trent Alexander, Loganville; Shannon Haney, Shae Haney, Lawrenceville; Christy Haney, John Haney, Melissa Haney, Buford; Step-grandchildren, Kim and Tim Alewine, Royston; Melissa and Jeff Vaughn, Bowman; Suzanne and Joey Strickland, Canon; two great-grandchildren, Luke and Diego, Canon; four step-grandchildren, Nichole, Tiffany, Jonathon, Joseph. Brothers and sisters-in-law, Camp and Polly Thornton, Tommy and Patsy Thornton, sister, Joanna Wallace, sister-in-law, Vivian Thornton, brothers-in-law, Hoyt Fowler, W.C. and Sue Haney, Jesse and Sara Haney, all of Buford; Herbert and Lida Haney, Flowery Branch; sisters-in-law, Ima Clark, Marie Berry, and Willene Haney, all of Buford. Her special care-giver, Marlain Thomas, Buford; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. At the request of her husband, their grandchildren will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers. Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, February 13, 2005 at 3 P.M. at the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Rev. Doyle Thornton officiating. Interment New Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery, Buford.
