Prosecutors drop murder charge against rapper

•DECATUR - Murder charges against rapper Gucci Mane were dropped on Friday.

DeKalb County prosecutors said their was a lack of evidence to try Mane, whose real name is Radric Davis, for murder in the shooting death of Henry Lee Clark III, a Macon rapper, on May 10.

Mane said he shot Clark in self-defense when Clark and four other men attacked him. Mane is still being held in the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta after pleading guilty to assaulting promoter Troy Buffor with a pool cue at Big Cat Records in June.

Georgia man accused of

Katrina fraud

•ALBANY - Federal authorities have arrested a Georgia man for allegedly trying to collect disaster assistance payments intended for workers disrupted by Hurricane Katrina.

Drewey Pierre Whittaker, 44, was arrested this month in Albany on charges of wire fraud and false use of Social Security numbers to obtain 50 disaster unemployment debit cards.

Authorities said the debit cards were mailed to a post office box registered to Whittaker in the Atlanta suburb of Villa Rica, where he once lived.

Baby sitter accused of battery released from jail

•ATLANTA - A baby sitter arrested on charges of injuring an infant in her care walked out of Coweta County Jail Thursday on a $16,000 bond.

Meanwhile, Diana Marino's alleged victim,

5-month-old Hannah Trosper, is still recovering in an Atlanta hospital. Doctors will insert a shunt to drain fluid from her brain to her abdomen.

Hannah's mother, Lori Trosper, left the infant in Marino's care the morning of Dec. 19. When she returned about 3 p.m., she said she found Marino holding her unconscious daughter. Marino was arrested Dec. 23 and confessed to hurting the baby, police said. She is charged with aggravated assault and aggravated battery.
