JEFFERSON - Four Mill Creek players hit for double-digits in points as the Hawks rallied from a seven-point halftime deficit to top Greater Atlanta Christian 64-56 in the semifinals of the Mountain Dew Jingle Jam Tournament at Jackson County High School on Tuesday night.
Jermaine Jackson led Mill Creek (5-7) with 20 points while Spencer Gay scored 15. Chase Anderson added 12 points and Will Yarborough finished with 11. Mill Creek will play Dacula tonight at 8:30 for the tournament crown. Wade Weldon of GAC (7-3) finished with 21 points to lead all scorers, while Reece Weideman added 20 points. BOYS BASKETBALL Berkmar 63, Cedar Grove 59 ATHENS - Berkmar trailed Cedar Grove by nine points in the third quarter but battled back in the fourth to post a 63-59 win over the Saints in the Clarke Central Tournament of Champions at Clarke Central High School on Tuesday. Patrick Shopeka of Berkmar led all scorers with 35 points, including 20 in the fourth quarter, while Ben Sharp scored 12. The Patriots (4-8) will play Clarke Central today at 5 p.m. Grayson 61, Russellville (Ky.) 53 RUSSELLVILLE, KY. - Dee Smith scored 15 points Tuesday night as Grayson knocked off host Russellville 61-53 in the second round of the First Southern National Bank Tournament. The win propels the Rams to Thursday's championship game. Renaldo Jean added 12 points as Grayson improved to 5-6. Apalachee 63, Jackson County 33 JEFFERSON - Up by one at halftime, Apalachee rolled in the second half to blow out host Jackson County 63-33 in the Mountain Dew Jingle Jam on Tuesday. The Wildcats, who play the Cherokee-Habersham Central winner today at 2 p.m., outscored Jackson County 38-9 in the second half. Connor Ryan led Apalachee with 17 points, Zack Spratling had 11 points and Ryan Smith added 10 points. Parkview 62, Lovejoy 49 McDonough - Michael Palmer scored 20 points and Ty Rowland added 17 as Parkview beat Lovejoy 62-49 in the Henry County Classic on Tuesday. Parkview (6-4) will play Fayette County in the tournament semifinals tonight at 8 at Henry County High School. GIRLS BASKETBALL Mill Creek 59, Habersham Central 40 JEFFERSON - Mill Creek topped Habersham Central 59-40 in the semifinals of the Mountain Dew Jingle Jam Tournament at Jackson County High School on Tuesday. The win sends the Hawks to the tournament finals where they will play Dacula tonight at 7. Shelbie Pool scored 21 points in the first half and finished the game with 24 points, while Brittany Howes chipped in with 10 points. Pool hit 4 of 4 3-pointers in the first half to help Mill Creek (9-4) build a 38-20 halftime lead. Parkview 57, Lovejoy 50 MCDONOUGH - Jessica Geiger logged a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds as the Panthers knocked off Lovejoy 57-50 in the second round of the Henry County Classic on Tuesday. Kimberly Reeves added 13 points as Parkview improved to 6-4. The Panthers will play Eastside today at 4 p.m. at Henry County High School in the tournament semis. Norcross 57, North 37 SUWANEE - Jasmine Godwin had 20 points, five steals and four assists Tuesday night as Norcross topped North Gwinnett 57-37 in a non-region game, avenging a 58-48 loss Norcross suffered against North on Dec. 11. D'Andra Moss added 13 points, nine rebounds and five steals as Norcross improved to 9-3. North, which fell to 9-2, was led by six points each from Jocelyn Danley and Jolie Efezokhae. SWIMMING/DIVING Mill Creek wins division title Mill Creek's swimming and diving team won Division Six of last weekend's Cobb-Gwinnett Challenge, finishing 147 points ahead of second-place Shiloh in a four-team division that also featured two Cobb County schools. The Hawks won 16 of 24 events. Establishing new school records for Mill Creek were: Alex Warner in the 200 freestyle (2 minutes, 5.31 seconds) and 100 butterfly (1:04.01), John Petronaci in the 50 free (24.21) and 100 free (53.65), Kevin Doran in the 100 fly (59.79) and 500 free (5:13.65) and David Dudley in the 100 backstroke (1:00.37). The 200 medley relay of Dudley, Tom White, Doran and Petronaci also set a new school record at 1:50.96. Other first-place finishers for Mill Creek were Dudley in the 200 IM (2:19.56), Marlie Creed in the 200 IM (2:25.85), Caroline Roloff in the 50 free (27.25), Meghan Gordon in diving (128.50), Elizabeth Fackler in the 500 free (5:35.85), Julian Wynter-Anderson in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.10) and Elizabeth Todd in the 100 breast (1:20.35). Shiloh's Jacob Tzegaebge won in diving (286.05). WRESTLING Four Wesleyan wrestlers place in Gainesville Tournament GAINESVILLE - Wesleyan had four wrestlers place in their respective weight classes in the Big Red Rumble at Gainesville High School on Tuesday night. Sam Ball, wrestling at 112 pounds, took third, while Brandon Patterson finished sixth at 125 pounds. Two others also placed sixth for the Wolves in Hampton Wilson at 145 pounds and Kelby Smith at 189 pounds. - Compiled by Scott Smith To report scores, call 770-339-5850.
