Margaret L. Hooks (Peggy), 74, of Conyers, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2005 after a short battle with cancer. She was a graduate of Bass High School where she was a cheerleader. Peggy retired from DeKalb School System 12 years ago as an internal auditor. Her tender and kind heart was admired by all. She loved gardening, crafts, and the outdoors. She was preceded in death by her mother, Katie Little, her father, Milton Little, 5 brothers and 1 sister. Daisie Pearl Freeman Duncan born in Monroe County, Georgia, Mrs. Duncan was well-loved by her large family and an eminent member of the Gwinnett Community for more than 60 years. She is pre-deceased by her parents, Gordon Lee Freeman and Mary Pearl Smith Freeman, her husband of almost 62 years, Mr. Robert F. Duncan, her son, Gordon Robert Duncan, and her six sisters, Mae Webb, Frances Butler, Louise Speir, Georgilee Pettigrew, Ruby Butler and Nancy Wiley. She is survived by her daughter Pearla D. Wall Kennedy, her son-in-law William D. (Bill) Kennedy, her daughter-in-law, Marcia Duncan, her five grandchildren, Chris Duncan, Eddie Duncan, Amy Hager, Mike Duncan, and Alysa Wall, her 4 great-grandchildren, Eric Duncan, Whitney Duncan, Marlena Hager, and Ava Hager, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Mrs. Duncan was an active member of Lawrenceville First United Methodist Church since 1934, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher and a Bible School Teacher, was a member of the Board of Stewards and served for five years as president of the Missionary Society, as well as being an active Circle Leader and member of the Loyal Laborers Sunday School class. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for more than 60 years, where she served as Worthy Matron and District Grand Deputy. She was a skilled cook and worthy bridge player, Her many hobbies included travel, china painting, sewing and crafting; she was a member of the Georgia Shell Club for many years and won more than one hundred ribbons for her shell art and collections. Among her many charitable activities, she is well loved and remembered for the caps she crocheted for newborns in area hospitals. Mrs. Duncan's life-long passion was genealogy. She began collecting information about her family at age 13, and was a long-time member of the Gwinnett County Historical Society. She researched and established documentation necessary to become a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of Eighteen Twelve, Daughters of the American Colonists, The National Society Magna Charta Dames, Dame of the Court of Honor, First Families of Georgia, Daughters of Colonial Wars, Continental Society Daughters of Indian Wars, Georgia Society Colonial Dames of the XVII Century, Sovereign Colonial Society - Americans of Royal Descent, The Jamestowne Society, and The Society of Descendants of Knights of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, Among her many famous ancestors, she was able to document her descent from fourteen signers of the Magna Charta and the Emperor Charlemagne, among other royalty. The family will receive visitors at the Lawrenceville Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 20-, 2005 from 4:00 until 6 o'clock in the afternoon. Col. Joseph Robert Henry, USAF Ret., age 79, of Stone Mountain, died Saturday, December 17, 2005. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2005, at 10:00 AM at Mountain Park UMC Chapel in Stone Mountain with Dr. Gary Whetstone and Rev. E. Gail Thompson officiating. Interment will follow on Thursday at Hillcrest Cemetery in Clearfield, PA. A native of Pennsylvania, Col. Henry was an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America and had a distinguished career in the military where at age 17 he enlisted in the Aircorps and began his service during WWII. Some of the highlights of his life were that he attended and graduated from The United States Military Academy (West Point) in 1949 where in 1948 he was an All American walk-on football player. He served as a pilot in both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War for which he was awarded the Bronze Star for heroic action under fire in 1968. In 1957 he attended the Air Force Institute of Technology and the Naval War College in 1962. He received an MBA from the University of Chicago in 1963 and was Chief of Launch Operations, Air Force Gemini Program 1963-1966 at Cape Canaveral in Florida. A distinguished graduate of the Air War College in 1970, Col. Henry became the Head of R.O.T.C. at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and retired in 1976 to start a second successful career as a rancher in South Alabama for 15 years before settling in Stone Mountain in 1990. Col. Henry was preceded in death by his brothers, John Austin and Eugene Lynn Henry, and his parents, Mary Catherine and Eugene Matthew Henry, as well as his fourth child, Matthew Robert Henry. Survivors include: Wife: Sue Henry, Stone Mountain; Children: Mary Jo (Dan) Brooks, Christine Henry, Dr. John Michael (Barbara Leasure) Henry, Cynthia (Pierce) Hodnette, Mark (Robin) Henry; 12 Grandchildren; 4 Great Grandchildren.
