Brookwood's Lorek, Collins Hill's Drouin named county's top runners

· Collins Hill's Jackie Drouin and Brookwood's Tim Lorek were selected as runners of the week by the Gwinnett County cross country coaches. Drouin was first in Stage Five at the Walton Stage Races and Lorek finished sixth at the Alexander Early Bird Invitational with a time of 16 minutes, 23 seconds.

Prep Rally honors Berkmar's Jeffers

· This week's Gwinnett Prep Rally airs highlights of the Parkview-Norcross, Brookwood-Dacula, Berkmar-Duluth and Greater Atlanta Christian-Westminster football games. The Player of the Week is Berkmar's Terrance Jeffers.

Gwinnett Prep Rally airs each Wednesday and Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Comcast Channel 25 and each Wednesday and Thursday at 9:30 p.m. on Charter Cable 19. It also airs on GCPS each Thursday at 10:30 p.m. and at 6 p.m. on Friday.

Cincinnati's Kearns to sign at Venture Sports

Georgia Nuggets win second national title

· The Grayson-based Georgia Nuggets, a 65-and-over senior softball team, recently won the International Senior Softball Championship in Manassas, Va. Sixty-five teams from six states were entered.

The Nuggets defeated West Virginia 21-3 for the title. Cecil Bice, Melvin Davis, Charlie Strong and Bill Bigham were named to the all-tournament team while Joe Daniel was voted best offensive player and Verlyn Hammond was named MVP.

Hawks re-sign Lue, sign rookie Stoudamire

· ATLANTA - The Atlanta Hawks re-signed Tyronn Lue and signed second-round pick Salim Stoudamire on Tuesday, bulking up their depth behind new starting point guard Joe Johnson.

Lue was obtained last December in a trade with the Houston Rockets. He averaged 13.5 points and 5.4 assists in 49 games with the Hawks.

Stoudamire was the first choice of the second round - the 31st pick overall. He was the fourth-highest scorer in Arizona history, averaging 15.2 points.

The Hawks also signed 7-foot center John Edwards, who played sparingly in 25 games for Indiana last season.

Pattie suspended for six races

· DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Busch Series driver Reed Sorenson's crew chief was suspended for six races Tuesday for soaking tires at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Brian Pattie was fined $35,000, suspended until Oct. 26 and placed on probation until the end of the year. Sorenson was docked 50 points in the standings.
