ATLANTA - Wesleyan won two big matches on Thursday, defeating perennial powers Class AAAA Marist 25-23, 25-10 and AAA Westminster 25-19, 25-20. Caiti Troyer had 41 assists and 16 digs for the Wolves (11-1), Nicole Fenner added 18 kills and four digs and Betsy Smith finished with 18 kills and four aces for Wesleyan.
VOLLEYBALL Parkview splits at Pope MARIETTA - Parkview defeated Riverwood 25-17, 25-23 on Thursday and lost to Pope 16-25, 25-23. Maggie Bean had eight digs, seven blocks and four kills for the Panthers (3-1). Jessica Geiger added 21 kills, seven digs and six blocks and Caroline Dean finished with 12 assists and two digs for Parkview. SOFTBALL North 10, Duluth 0 SUWANEE - North Gwinnett opened its Region 7-AAAAA play with a 10-0 win over Duluth on Thursday. Stacey Condra earned the win, pitching five innings, giving up four hits while striking out four. She was also 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Kristina Melts went 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Bulldogs (8-1, 1-0). Brianna Hessen and Stephanie Olivier both added two hits for North. South 1, Pope 0 SNELLVILLE - Sasha Philpot outlasted Pope's Jen Miller as South Gwinnett edged the Greyhounds 1-0 on Tuesday. Philpot pitched a complete game, yielding only one hit and striking out four batters. Colette Rollins led the Comets offensively with two hits and a run scored. Chattahoochee 4, Norcross 1 NORCROSS - Norcross lost 4-1 to Chattahoochee on Thursday. Jaime Sylvester was the losing pitcher for the Blue Devils (1-4, 1-2). Malika Wadley was 1-for-3 and Nina Iduate had a hit and scored the only run for Norcross. - Compiled by Chris King To report scores, call 770-339-5850.
