SUWANEE - North Gwinnett spoiled Brookwood's season opener, beating the visiting Broncos 10-0 in five innings Wednesday in the Hawk/Bulldog Softball Invitational.
Jessica Batten (4-0) pitched a complete game, striking out five and allowing four hits, as North improved to 7-1. She also had a triple and three RBIs, while Katie Fullem was 3-for-4 with an RBI and both Brianna Hesson and Stephanie Olivier were 1-for-1 with two RBIs. Leadoff batter Christie Thompson drew four walks and scored two runs. Brookwood then rebounded to defeat Starr's Mill 2-1 on Wednesday. Karla Alt got the win for the Broncos, allowing three hits and one run in seven innings. Kacie Shields had two hits and an RBI and Alex Erisman had a double and a run scored for the Broncos, who are now 1-0 on the season. SOFTBALL Union Grove 3, Norcross 0 NORCROSS - Nina Iduate, Sadie Lingsch and Malika Wadley all had hits for Norcross, but it wasn't enough as the Blue Devils fell to Union Grove 3-0 in the Hawk/Bulldog Softball Invitational at Norcross on Wednesday. Jaime Silvester went all six innings on the mound for the Blue Devils, who are now 1-3 on the season. Shiloh wins, ties DULUTH - Natalie Jones pitched a no-hitter to lead Shiloh to a 6-0 win over Campbell in the Hawk/Bulldog Softball Invitational on Wednesday. Megan Wiggins went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI and Jillian Bouchard was 2-for-2 for the Generals (4-5-1). Later Wednesday, Shiloh played Parkview to a 4-4 tie. Katie Mooney went 1-for-3 with a double and Danielle Tippins was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Mill Creek wins pair HOSCHTON - Mill Creek won its two games in the Hawk/Bulldog Softball Invitational on Wednesday. Bethany Ullrich struck out four to lead the Hawks past Dacula 2-1. Ullrich also went 1-for-3 at the plate with a run scored, and Dez Franklin was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs. Later, Katy Hackett struck out five as Mill Creek (8-1) shut out Jackson County 2-0. Brittany Owen went 1-for-2 with and RBI and Kristen Kozma went 1-for-2. Collins Hill takes two SUWANEE - Collins Hill picked up a pair of shutout wins in the Hawk/Bulldog Softball Invitational on Wednesday. Shelley Jenkins' triple drove in Michelle Brodrick for the only score as the Eagles blanked Central Gwinnett 1-0 in the first game. Kara Pollack (1-0) only allowed three hits for the win. In the second game, Libby Munson pitched a one-hitter while striking out eight as Collins Hill (3-1) beat Westminster 5-0. Jenkins and Ellen Black were both 2-for-3 at the plate Buford 11, Providence 0 BUFORD - Buford's Melissa Higginbotham allowed just one hit in an 11-0 shutout win over Providence on Wednesday in the Buford Fastpitch Invitational. Higginbotham also had two hits and two RBIs at the plate for the Wolves, who are now 7-1 on the season. Jesse Groves and Shannon Wilson each had two hits as well. Wesleyan 3, Union County 2 BUFORD - Whitney Warren drove in the winning run while Paige Hamlin struck out four in her first start as Wesleyan beat Union County 3-2 Wednesday at the Buford Fastpitch Invitational. Warren went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Wolves (1-1), and Brittany Propis provided solid defense. - From staff reports To report scores, call 770-339-5850.
