Woman's wallet stolen from home

WINDER - A woman reported her home was broken into Saturday while three people slept inside.

The East Fifth Avenue resident told police someone broke into her house some time after 11:30 p.m., according to a police report. The screen door was cut, and a chain lock was pried from the door frame, the report said. The woman's purse was taken and dumped outside, but her wallet was missing, the report said.

Police found a flashlight and a screwdriver at the scene, the report said.

Man accused of giving alcohol to minor

WINDER - A man was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor after he allegedly gave alcohol to a 16-year-old.

Mark Reigel, 47, of Winder, is accused of giving vodka to the 16-year-old. The child's mother called police when he returned home intoxicated Monday at 7:12 p.m.

The boy's older brother said he witnessed Reigel giving the juvenile alcohol. Reigel denied that he had, but the boy's eyes were bloodshot, his pupils were constricted and he had showered and put on a lot of cologne when he came home because he knew his mother had called the police and he wanted to disguise the smell, his mother said.

Reigel also was charged with furnishing alcohol to a minor.

Norcross gas leak prompts evacuations

NORCROSS - Two townhomes were evacuated Wednesday after a gas leak was reported at Beaver Creek Town homes.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the leak between two buildings and assisted 24 residents in leaving their homes for their safety. Atlanta Gas Light responded to repair the leak at 1:37 p.m., said Thomas Rutledge, spokesman for the Gwinnett County Fire Department.

Firefighters monitored gas levels in the evacuated buildings until it was safe for residents to return at 2 p.m., Rutledge said.

Police: Woman struck boyfriend with high heel

NORCROSS - A 24-year-old Norcross woman was arrested Monday on charges she struck her boyfriend with a high-heel shoe.

Police who arrived at the home on Oakbrooke Pointe Apartments at 1:50 a.m., found Rody Damari Valle-Lara with a bloody nose. Valle-Lara told officers she got in an argument with her boyfriend. She admitted striking him in the head with one of her high-heel shoes, according to police reports.

During the scuffle, the boyfriend grabbed Valle-Lara from behind to prevent her from hitting him again, but his hands accidentally slipped and he unintentionally hit her in the nose, the report said.

Police ran a background check on the pair and discovered Valle-Lara was wanted by the U.S. Department of Immigration and Naturalization. She was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. The boyfriend also was cited and released at the scene for disorderly conduct.

Man beaten at apartments

LAWRENCEVILLE - An 18-year-old man was badly beaten Monday by a group of residents at The Preserve at Legacy Park apartment complex.

The victim told police he and a friend put on boxing gloves and were participating a friendly match in the parking lot when several acquaintances walked up. The attackers jumped on the victim and started hitting him, according to police reports. One of the attackers was wearing brass knuckles.

The victim was hospitalized with a laceration to his head. He had to have 17 staples and two stitches to close the wound in his scalp, police reports said.
