LAWRENCEVILLE - Lacy Reck's strong pitching propelled Central Gwinnett to a 1-0 victory over McEachern in the Cobb/Gwinnett Challenge on Tuesday.
Reck (3-2) pitched seven shutout innings Tuesday night, recording four strikeouts and allowing only two hits in the
Stephanie Peet scored the lone Black Knight run on an RBI by Jessica Davis. The win improved Central's record to 4-4.
GAC 1, Lumpkin Co. 0
NORCROSS - Jessica Coan set a new school record for strikeouts in a seven-inning game with 19 on Tuesday night as Greater Atlanta Christian edged Lumpkin County 1-0. Coan (7-1) allowed just one hit while doubling to record the only hit for GAC (7-1, 2-0).
GAC's run came on an RBI groundout from Reagan Page to plate Mollie Mitchell.
Lovett 7, Wesleyan 1
NORCROSS - Wesleyan dropped its opening game of the season Tuesday night with a 7-1 loss to Lovett. Starter Missy Genthert took the loss but allowed just one earned run as Wesleyan committed seven errors that led to six unearned runs.
Kristie Arnold drove in Wesleyan's run on a sacrifice fly to score Elise Whitney.
Dacula 3, Lassiter 1
DACULA - Dacula defeated Lassiter 3-1 in the Cobb/Gwinnett Challenge Tuesday night to improve to 6-0.
Alanna Hadley allowed five hits and struck out eight while allowing one unearned run. Adele Voigt and Catty Colvin each went 2-for-3, with Voigt scoring two runs and Colvin scoring one. Chelsea Garrett was also 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Norcross 9, Centennial 1
ROSWELL - Norcross notched its first win of the year with a 9-1 defeat of Centennial on Tuesday night.
Sadie Lingsch was 2-for-2 at the plate while recording the win on the mound with three strikeouts over six innings. Nina Iduate, Tiffany Jones and Katie Bostic each went 2-for-4 for Norcross (1-2).
Grayson 11, Kell 1
GRAYSON - Grayson recorded 10 hits Tuesday night as the Rams (4-3) knocked off defending Class AAAAA state champs Kell 11-1 in the Cobb/Gwinnett Challenge. Mandi Burns (4-2) notched the win by allowing one run over six innings with six strikeouts and three walks.
Shelley Bender led the way with a 2-for-4 night with three RBIs and two runs while Melissa Davis was 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Shannon Bear finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and three runs while Amber Russell had a double and an RBI.
Burns also was 2-for-2 with two runs while Amanda Hutcheson walked twice and scored twice. Grayson's rainout of last Thursday's game with North Oconee will be made up on Oct. 3 at Grayson.
Providence 1, Dawson Co. 0
LILBURN - Hannah Reiswig improved her record to 6-3 while allowing only two hits in leading Providence to a 1-0 win over Dawson County in the Stars' Region 8-AA opener.
Julie Jordan (2-for-3) drove in Carli West with an RBI double for the game's only run. Providence improved to 6-4 overall and 1-0 in the region.
Dacula tops Marietta
ATLANTA - Lindsey Weider had 13 digs and one kill while Rachel Dyer added 10 kills and four digs as Dacula defeated Marietta 25-19, 25-15 Tuesday night at Woodward Academy. Rose Corneille added 10 digs and nine assists while Kelly Reonas finished with two kills and a block.
Dacula also faced Woodward Academy and lost 26-24, 25-16 to the hosts. Corneille had 13 assists against Woodward while Dyer finished with five kills, five digs and two assists. Abbie Daniel also had six blocks and a kill while Weider had 10 digs and one kill.
Collins Hill sweeps North and Centennial
ROSWELL - Collins Hill improved to 7-0 Tuesday night with a pair of sweeps over North Gwinnett (25-23, 25-14) and Centennial (25-14, 25-16) at Centennial High School.
Katie Winschel led the Eagles with 12 kills while Kelsey Foster added 16 assists and Jessica Davies finished with nine kills.
Brookwood beats Peachtree Ridge and Grayson
SNELLVILLE - Brookwood swept Peachtree Ridge (25-12, 25-19) and Grayson Tuesday night. Leah Kitchen finished with 48 assists to lead the Broncos while Paige Ivey recorded 13 digs, 12 blocks and 15 kills.
Grayson salvaged a split on the night by topping Peachtree Ridge (25-23, 25-9). Lindsey Ajala led the Lions in both kills and blocks while Katie Kjerrumgaarv led the team in digs. Amanda Kerr led the team in aces while Nicole Louchart led the team in assists.
Providence tops South
Gwinnett and South Cobb
SNELLVILLE - Providence picked up a pair of wins Tuesday night by defeating South Gwinnett (25-21, 25-18) and South Cobb at South Gwinnett High School.
Mary Ellen Hudson led the Stars (5-3) with seven assists while Caroline Reynolds added seven assists and three kills. Lindsay Duryea added four kills and two blocks.
South Gwinnett earned a split by topping South Cobb 25-23, 21-25, 25-20. Nellya Zaytsev had 55 assists and three aces for the Comets while Amy McEachin added six kills and three assists and Jenny Hester served five aces.
