Prep roundup: Samuels shuts out fourth foe

SUWANEE - Jackie Samuels recorded her fourth shutout of the season and Chelsea Parrish was 3-for-4 with three RBIs as Peachtree Ridge beat visiting Sprayberry 13-0 on Monday in the Cobb/Gwinnett Challenge.

Samuels struck out six and allowed only two hits in the game, shortened to five innings by the 10-run rule. Rhea Taylor was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and Jackie Gonzalez was 1-for-2 with three runs scored as the Lions improved to 7-1.

Oglethorpe County 1

BUFORD - Jesse Groves did a lot to help the fifth-ranked Buford Wolves defeat No. 6 Oglethorpe County 7-1 in their home opener Monday.

Groves (4-1) recorded the complete-game win, allowing just two hits and one run while striking out seven and walking none. She also went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, two RBIs and a run.

Kelly Tucker and Shannon Wilson were both 2-for-3. Tucker had two RBIs while Wilson scored a run and stole a base as the Wolves upped their record to 6-1 overall.

Shiloh 8, Wheeler 5

SNELLVILLE - Ellyce Anderson was 3-for-4 and Megan Wiggins was 2-for-2 with a solo home run as Shiloh defeated visiting Wheeler 8-5 Monday in the Cobb/Gwinnett Challenge.

Danielle Tippins also played well, going 2-for-2, and Natalie Jones picked up the win for the Generals, who improved to 3-5.

Killian Hill downs Heritage

GAINESVILLE - The Killian Hill volleyball team opened its season with a 3-1 victory over Heritage Academy on Monday. Killian Hill won 26-24, 21-25, 25-13, 25-11.

Keely Passman and Alyson Trine each had 11 kills and Lauren McMahan added three kills and five aces.

Hebron drops

first matches of season

DACULA - Hebron Christian lost its first matches of the year, falling to Price Avenue Christian 25-21, 25-19 and Madison County 25-20, 25-18 on Monday. That dropped the Lions to 5-2 overall.

Killian Hill soccer opener

LILBURN - The Killian Hill boys soccer team got its season off on the right foot with a 10-0 win over Loganville Christian on Monday.

Chris Williams scored five goals and Jason Abernathy added two goals and an assist. Steven Sokohl, George Campian and Paul Hudson scored one goal each for Killian Hill, which is now 1-0.
