Gas-main break ties up traffic
LAWRENCEVILLE - A gas-main break shut down traffic at Stone Mountain Street and Gwinnett Drive for several hours Saturday.
City of Lawrenceville work crews struck the 4-inch line about 12:40 p.m., Gwinnett fire Lt. Craig Stanley said.
Traffic was shut down at the intersection until about 4:15 p.m., and area businesses were evacuated while the line was repaired, Stanley said. One firefighter was treated and released at the scene for heat-related injuries.
Lightning strike sets fire to house
LAWRENCEVILLE - A house was struck by lightning Friday, setting fire to the attic and roof.
The fire, at 62 Durbin Place, occurred at 4:54 p.m. and was under control by 5:28 p.m. The occupants were home at the time, but there were no injuries, Gwinnett fire Lt. Craig Stanley said.
Tree catches home on fire
LAWRENCEVILLE - A tree was struck by lightning during a storm Friday, catching a house on fire when it fell.
Lightning struck the tree, and fire spread to a gas line at 2305 Carlysle Cove Drive, catching the home's water heater on fire, Gwinnett fire Lt. Craig Stanley said.
Firefighters shut down the gas line and had the fire under control at 7:23 p.m., Stanley said. It was called in at 7:15 p.m. The occupants were home at the time of the fire, but there were no injuries.
