Two arrested in connection with armed robbery

DULUTH - Two men have been arrested in connection with an armed robbery Thursday at Future Communications at 3365 Steve Reynolds Blvd.

James Edward Boyd III, 23, of Lithonia and Bradley Boston Jr., 21, of Lilburn have been charged with armed robbery and denied bond. Police allege the two held up an employee while stealing merchandise, then drove away moments before police could arrive. However, a man standing outside the store was able to write down the license-plate number.

Police tracked the number to a Lithonia residence, where they found almost all of the stolen items and the handguns used by the suspects. Boyd and Boston also are being investigated in connection with other crimes in Gwinnett, said Officer Darren Moloney, spokesman for Gwinnett County Police Department.

Fire damages shopping plaza

NORCROSS - A mid-morning fire caused heavy damage to a vitamin store Friday on Carter Rockbridge Plaza at 5050 Jimmy Carter Blvd.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke billowing from the roof at the center of the building and the vitamin store engulfed in flames. The fire was contained to the store, where it is believed to have originated. Two adjoining businesses also sustained slight smoke and heat damage.

The cause of the blaze was accidental, said Thomas Rutledge, spokesman for Gwinnett County Fire Department.

Man arrested after allegedly fleeing police traffic stop

NORCROSS - A Lawrenceville man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly tried to run away from a police traffic stop.

An officer patrolling near the Knights Inn at Indian Trail Lilburn Road about 10 p.m. ran the license-plate of a suspicious-looking Ford Crown Victoria. The plate number was registered to a Ford Explorer, according to police reports.

When the officer tried to pull the car over, the driver sped away into a business park, got out and ran on foot into a heavily wooded area.

Police pursued and were able to use a Taser to stop the suspect, 24-year-old Anglero Bradier, who was charged with obstruction. They discovered the car had been reported stolen

in Gwinnett County on Aug. 11.

Man accused of sexually assaulting roommate's wife

NORCROSS - A man was arrested Tuesday on charges of trying to sexually assault his roommate's wife and then threatening the roommate at gunpoint, according to police reports.

The wife told police Rolondo Martinez forced entry into her locked bedroom at Park Crossing Apartments while her husband was at work and she was sleeping. She said he pushed her onto the bed, fondled her and kissed her, the report said.

Martinez's brother came into the room and stopped him, the report said.

After the victim's husband returned, he argued with Martinez. Martinez swung a bat at the husband, striking him in the forearm, and then retrieved a rifle from his bedroom, police reports said.

Martinez threatened to harm the husband before leaving the apartment, according to the report. He was stopped by officers who had arrived to investigate the dispute. Martinez is charged with aggravated assault.

Three charged with robbery, assault

DULUTH - Three men were arrested on Monday after allegedly beating up a man at a Mexican restaurant at 4000 Satellite Blvd. and stealing his gold chain.

The victim was eating and watching television with friends at 11:15 p.m. when several men approached and asked him what he was looking at. A man grabbed him by the shirt, pulling his gold necklace off, and then punched him several times in the face, the report said.

As the victim was leaving a short time later, the men again confronted him in the parking lot. Armed with a bat and an unidentified metal object, they began striking and punching him, the report said. The victim was able to get into a car and flee, but the men followed in a white truck, the report said.

Police found the truck parked at an apartment building in the victim's Gwinnett Crossing Apartment complex and arrested three men - 21-year-old Geromino Galindo-Plata, 24-year-old Jorge Vargas and 18-year-old Julio Canals.

Plata is charged with robbery. Vargas and Canals are charged with aggravated assault.
