Jennings Jarrard McGee, age 86, died Thursday, August 18, 2005 at her residence in Gainesville, Georgia where she had lived for the past six months. Mrs. McGee was born in Cornelia, Georgia on January 25, 1919, the first child of Mr. & Mrs. Allan Jennings Jarrard of Cleveland, Georgia. She lived in Cleveland until she was 11 years old when her family moved to Chicopee, Georgia where her father became Postmaster and manager of the Village Stores. She attended Gainesville High School and Brenau College and after college, worked for the Farm Security Administration. Her job brought her to Lawrenceville, Georgia wher she met her future husband, James H. McGee, Jr., a Lawrenceville native and, at that time, a Lieutenant in the U. S. Army. Mr. and Mrs. McGee were married on August 17, 1945 and settled in Lawrenceville where they owned and operated McGee Cleaners for over 40 years. They lived at their home on Baggett St. where they reared three children, Jenny, Jim, and Jayna, until Mr. McGee's death in 2000 and Mrs. McGee's move to Gainesville in 2005. Mrs. McGee was a loyal and dedicated member of Lawrenceville First United Methodist Church for over 60 years and cherished the many dear friends she had there. She served on the Board of Stewards and the Board of Trustees and faithfully attended services and supported her beloved church for as long as her health permitted. One of her great pleasures for many years was “tenting” with her family and friends at the Lawrenceville First Methodist Campground. Campmeeting was a much anticipated event for her each year and Mrs. McGee loved to reminisce about good times there. Mrs. McGee was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Jayna Jarrard McGee Walz, her husband, James H McGee, Jr., her beloved brother and sister-in-law, George Asbury Jarrard and Edna Earle Easter Jarrard and her beloved sister and brother-in-law, Carolene Jarrard Carter and Sosebee Franklin Carter.
