Man allegedly assaulted by acquaintance
LAWRENCEVILLE - A Lawrenceville man was pistol-whipped and nearly escaped being shot Monday during an altercation with an acquaintance at Carla Court, police said.
Police responded to a call at 4:30 a.m. from a 35-year-old man who said he was shot in the head by a man named Billy Waters. The victim said he was outside when Waters showed up and ordered him to get on his knees and not to scream because he was going to kill him.
Someone inside the house reportedly ran outside and jumped on Waters in an attempt to intervene. Waters then hit the victim in the head with the gun and it went off, according to police reports.
The victim ran away to a neighbor's house to call 911. Waters, 34, of Flowery Branch was later arrested on charges of aggravated assault, habitual violator and theft by receiving.
Unidentified man robs Wendy's
NORCROSS - An unidentified man on Monday robbed the Wendy's restaurant at 5297 Jimmy Carter Blvd. and forced employees into a cooler.
The suspect came in through a side door at 12:05 a.m. and made four workers get into the cooler, according to police reports. He then confronted a manager in his office, put a gun to his head and demanded all the money.
The manager was ordered to join the other workers in the cooler as the robber fled. The suspect is a small-framed black man with short black hair. He weighs about 150 pounds and is 5 feet 7 inches tall.
Man arrested for alleged DUI
NORCROSS - A Norcross man was arrested Sunday after allegedly driving drunk and veering his car off the road into a residential lawn.
An officer dispatched to investigate reports of a white van driving recklessly on Creekford Trace at 1:58 a.m., according to police reports. The van was headed toward the patrol car, but just as it got close, it ran off the road into a private lawn and stopped.
When the officer approached, he found 20-year-old Jorge Alberto Escobar-Gutierrez apparently asleep. Asked if he was all right, Gutierrez mumbled, "I'm drunk," according to police reports.
The officer turned off the vehicle and opened the door, and Gutierrez fell out of the van, according to the report. Gutierrez allegedly admitted to drinking a lot of beer. Gutierrez was charged with DUI, possession of an open container of alcohol and no driver's license.
