No home games for Gladiators in preseason

DULUTH - The Gwinnett Gladiators announced their preseason schedule Tuesday and for the second straight year none of the games are at home.

The Gladiators play at Pensacola on Oct. 14 and 15. Both games begin at 7:05 p.m.

Last year, Gwinnett split a pair of exhibition games with the Ice Pilots.

The Gladiators face Pensacola - now searching for a new head coach after Dave Farrish abruptly departed last week to take an assistant coaching job with the Anaheim Mighty Ducks - five times this season.

Gwinnett opens the 2005-06 ECHL season at the Arena at Gwinnett Center on Oct. 21 against Charlotte, which ousted the Gladiators from last season's playoffs.

Several ticket packages are on sale now. For more information, call 770-497-5100 or log on to www.gwinnettgladiators.com .

Gladiators' 'Hat Trick For Reading' expanded

The Gwinnett Gladiators had such an overwhelming response to their "Hat Trick for Reading" program last year, they added an additional game date for 2005-06.

The program is designed to help stimulate interest in reading among elementary school children in Gwinnett County and its and surrounding areas.

Each participating student is given a Gladiators bookmark and asked to read at least three books during a specified time period. Students complete the program will receive a voucher for two complimentary seats to a Gladiators game.

More than 60 local schools and 50,000 kids participated in the program last year. The Gladiators had their first sellout and an overflow crowd in excess of 11,355 on the Suwanee Dental Care "Hat Trick For Reading Night" last Nov. 5.
