Mother charged with child cruelty
BUFORD - A 44-year-old Buford woman was jailed Wednesday for allegedly beating her two teenage children with a television cable.
Vanessa Williams struck her 14-year-old daughter and 15-year-old son multiple times on the arms, legs and abdomen, causing cuts and welts, according to an arrest warrant. The incident occurred at Williams' home on Crestworth Lane in Buford.
Williams faces two charges of first-degree cruelty to children.
Lilburn couple interrupt robbery
LILBURN - A Lilburn man and woman were attacked Tuesday by two men who confronted them in their garage on Lachateau Place in Lilburn.
The victims, who own a Chinese restaurant in Decatur, were returning home from work at 12:09 a.m. when two unidentified men ran into their garage from the driveway. The suspects began punching and hitting the victims in an apparent robbery attempt, according to police reports.
The female victim's husband heard a commotion in the garage and ran to investigate, scaring away the intruders. The suspects ran away without stealing anything and got into a small passenger car parked down the street.
They are described as black men with short hair and medium builds, about 18 to 20 years old and 5 foot 7 inches to 5 foot 9 inches tall.
Norcross man flees kidnappers
NORCROSS - A Norcross man jumped from a moving truck Sunday on Interstate 285 to escape kidnappers who had threatened to kill him, according to police reports.
The man told authorities he was kidnapped from the El Amigo restaurant at 4995 Jimmy Carter Blvd. by two Hispanic men. The suspects approached him in the parking lot, produced a knife and demanded his money and car keys.
The victim was reportedly forced into his truck and driven around for two hours before he fought with the abductors and jumped out of the truck at I-285 and Roswell Road. The truck was found abandoned early Monday morning on the exit ramp of Beaver Ruin Road and Interstate 85.
