The high school fastpitch softball season officially gets underway today, just two days after school started, with the South Gwinnett Diamond Classic.
The Comets host the 20-team event with the help of four other local schools - Dacula, Greater Atlanta Christian, Grayson and Mill Creek. Each of those four schools also host games for the tourney. Pool play begins today at all five sites, with two interesting Gwinnett vs. Gwinnett matchups: Central Gwinnett vs. North Gwinnett at Mill Creek and Dacula vs. Shiloh at Dacula. Pool play continues through Friday. The tournament concludes with medal play on Saturday, when teams are broken down into five divisions based on their record in pool play. Games begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday with the medal play final games slated for 7 p.m. - From staff reportsMore like this story
