Thelma Stephens Sturdivant, 93, of Lilburn, died Friday, August 5, 2005. The funeral will be at 2 P.M., Monday, August 8, 2005 at the First Baptist Church of Lilburn with Rev. Bill Terry and Mrs. Susan Rumble officiating. Interment will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Duluth. Mrs. Sturdivant was born in Hall County and lived most of her adult life in Gwinnett County. She was a dietician at North Springs High School, Riverwood High School, and The Atlanta Eye Clinic. She and her husband, Roy Sturdivant, owned and operated several restaurants in Tucker, Lawrenceville, and Stone Mountain. Mrs. Sturdivant was a charter member and first Worthy Matron of The Sweetwater Chapter #298 Order of the Easter Star and was an active member for many years of the First Baptist Church of Lilburn, teaching Sunday School and serving on various committees. She started the babies' nursery program for the church, furnishing the room with her children's baby bed. She was very active in the Lilburn Public School and was instrumental in starting their first hot food lunch program. Thelma committed much of the Holy Bible to memory and was always prepared to recite an applicable scripture for any occasion in an effort to console, uplift, remind, or gently persuade to do the right thing. Mrs. Sturdivant was preceded in death by her husband, Roy F. Sturdivant. Survivors include: Daughter & Son-In-Law: Linda & Jim King, Roswell; Son & Daughter-In-Law: Roddy & Geneva Sturdivant, Buford; Grandchildren: Briggs Allen, Brett Allen, Mike Sturdivant, Steve Sturdivant; Two Great Grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a Thelma Sturdivant Memorial Fund at the First Baptist Church of Lilburn, 285 Main Street, Lilburn, GA 30047.
