Atlanta giant panda not pregnant

ATLANTA - A giant panda at Zoo Atlanta, Lun Lun, is not pregnant, zoo officials said Wednesday. Zookeepers said last month that the 7-year-old panda was showing symptoms of a pregnancy, just after a giant panda cub was born at the National Zoo in Washington.

There is no pregnancy test for giant pandas, so the Atlanta Zoo was relying on Lun Lun's behavior and hormone levels when it announced earlier this summer that she may be pregnant. Lun Lun was artificially inseminated in March.

After more study of Lun Lun and an ultrasound, zookeepers determined Tuesday that she isn't pregnant, said Zoo Atlanta spokeswoman Jacqueline Petty.
