Post staffers earn AP awards

ATLANTA - Gwinnett Daily Post Photo Editor Anthony Stalcup and staff writer Andria Simmons won first and second place in separate categories in the 2004 Georgia Associated Press Association news contest on Saturday.

Stalcup won first place in sports photography in class AAAA for his photo titled "Stretch for the Catch."

Simmons won second place in beat reporting in class AAAA as the Post's police and cops reporter.

Stalcup and Simmons were honored at the Freedom of Information workshop and awards luncheon Saturday at the Westin Atlanta Airport Hotel.

The contest was judged by AP member newspaper editors in California and Nevada.
