Mrs. Mildred L. Nelson, age 85, of Lawrenceville, GA, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2005, in Emory Eastside Hospital, in Snellville, following an illness. She was preceded in death by her husband Rex William Nelson. Mildred was born in Fort Pierce, Florida on January 1, 1920, to Walter Raleigh and Dicie Lott (deceased). She graduated from high school in Fort Pierce, Florida. She graduated from Riverside Hospital School of Nursing in Jacksonville, Florida in 1941. She married Rex William Nelson on March 12, 1942. After he was discharged from the Navy in 1945, they moved to Fort Pierce, Florida. They owned a number of businesses including the Greyhound Bus Station until retiring in 1973 and moving to Hiawassee, Georgia. Mildred was involved with numerous civic organizations. She was active in the First Baptist Church until she and Rex moved to Georgia. They enjoyed living in Hiawassee and Blairsville and attended McConnell Baptist Church in Hiawassee and First Methodist Church in Blairsville. Mildred moved to Grayson, Georgia in 2002. She joined the Lawrenceville Presbyterian Church and participated in many activities. She is survived by two children: Walter W. “Bill” Nelson and his wife Linda Ross Nelson of Boca Raton, Florida; and Jo Ann Nelson and her husband Robert L. Kennerly of Lawrenceville, Georgia; two grandchildren: Melanie Nelson and Heather of Boca Raton, Florida; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers Rufus and Felton Lott and sisters Lily Mae Godley and Ruby Hays. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, April 26, 2005, at 11 AM at the Lawrenceville Presbyterian Church; 800 Lawrenceville Highway South, Lawrenceville, Georgia. Rev. Paul Ard and Rev. John Latta officiating.
