Prep Roundup: Peachtree Ridge girls tennis advances to 7-AAAAA semifinals

STONE MOUNTAIN - Peachtree Ridge advanced to the semifinals of the 7-AAAAA region tournament on Thursday.

After earning a first round bye, the Lions shut out Collins Hill 3-0 in the quarterfinals. Winning for Peachtree Ridge was Paige Schwobe at No. 2 singles, Amanda Barnes at No. 3 singles and the team of Kala Jones and Chelsea Young at No. 2 doubles. The Lions face Chattahoochee today at 1 p.m. at the Lincoln Tennis Center in Stone Mountain.


Norcross 3, Dacula 0

DACULA - Brian Quirk, Steven Kinney and Otto Loewy scored a goal each as the Region 7-AAAAA champion Norcross Blue Devils blanked Dacula 3-0 on Thursday. Kinney added an assist for Norcross (13-0-2, 9-0-1), as did Eric Swanburg. Derek Christensen played the entire match at goalkeeper, earning the shutout.


Norcross 3, Dacula 1

DACULA - The Norcross girls soccer team put itself in good position for the state playoffs on Thursday with a 3-1 win over Dacula. The Blue Devils, 8-4-3 overall and 5-2-3 in Region 7-AAAAA, will qualify for the playoffs if South Forsyth (11-0-2) beats or ties Peachtree Ridge (8-6-3) tonight.

Kate Tyler and Lindsey King had a goal and an assist each for Norcross and Lindsey Warthen scored the other goal.


North 148, Duluth 178

LAKE LANIER ISLANDS - Daniel Lee shot a 34 and Chris Mueller added a 37 to lead North Gwinnett to a 148 to 178 win over Duluth at the Emerald Pointe Golf Club on Thursday. Cory Cummings added a 38 for the Bulldogs and Justin Ostrowski had the low score for the Wildcats with a 38 as well.


Lakeview Academy 19,

Hebron 9

GAINESVILLE - Lakeview Academy defeated Hebron Christian Academy 19-9 on Thursday. Justin Adams was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored for the Lions. Bobby Cole had a double and two RBIs with Dana Bryant and Lee Peacock both adding a double and an RBI for Hebron.


Wesleyan 18, Marist 6

NORCROSS - Mandy Fleming and Alison Morris scored three goals each as Wesleyan defeated Marist 18-6 on Thursday. The Wolves (9-4), had two goals apiece scored by Jordan Catrini, Alison Bagdy, Colleen Horne and Alison Edwards.


St. Pius 112,

Providence 114

LAWRENCEVILLE - St. Pius edged Providence Christian 112 to 114 at the Northwood Country Club on Thursday. Molly Webb shot a 54 for the Stars.
