Prep Roundup: Schaefer pitches Mill Creek past Dacula 7-5

DACULA - Mill Creek's Karl Schaefer pitched 62D3 innings against Dacula on Friday night, allowing five runs, five hits with five strikeouts as the Hawks defeated Dacula 7-5. Andy Keller recorded the last out for the save in the Region 7-AAAAA game.

Dan Noice had two doubles and two RBIs for Mill Creek (14-3, 2-0) while Bryce Brown was 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs. Cody Klickner added an RBI on a pinch-hit double for Mill Creek. Tony Baker led Dacula with two home runs.


Collins Hill 4, Northview 3

DULUTH - Collins Hill improved to 2-0 in Region 7-AAAAA on Friday night by beating Northview 4-3. Justice French (3-0) went 52D3 innings for the win, allowing five hits and one earned run with five strikeouts and no walks.

Tyler Oliver added 11D3 innings work of scoreless relief with one strikeout for the save while Kevin Morrison led the offense by going 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI for Collins Hill (12-6).

Parkview 13, Berkmar 3

LILBURN - Parkview beat Berkmar 13-3 Friday night in five innings. Pitcher Stephen McCray (3-0) had three strikeouts, earning the win in the Region 8-AAAAA game.

David Reynolds led the offense by hitting a grand slam while Leo White, Scott Steele and K.D. Kang each had a hit and two RBIs. Josh Hooper also added an RBI for Parkview (12-5, 5-0) while Steve Esmonde went 2-for-2.

Duluth 6, Peachtree Ridge 5

DULUTH - Kevin Newton drove in Patrick Brock on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh as Duluth rallied to beat Peachtree Ridge 6-5. Peachtree Ridge led 5-1 going into the bottom of the fifth before Duluth (13-3, 1-0) scored the game's next five runs.

Newton also added a solo homer while Ross Book had a home run and two RBIs. Preston Bradshaw and Brock each added two hits while Daniel Sarisky pitched one inning of relief for the win.

Shiloh 12, Central 2

SNELLVILLE - Shiloh's Drew Freeman allowed one earned run over five innings and recorded three strikeouts to help the Generals defeat Central Gwinnett 12-2 in Region 8-AAAAA on Friday.

Mikey Mixon went 3-for-3 with two RBIs for Shiloh (4-13, 2-3) while William Wilson had two hits and two RBIs and Kellan Chrisman added a pair of hits and an RBI.

Grayson 10, Meadowcreek 0

GRAYSON - Grayson defeated Meadowcreek 10-0 in six innings Friday night in a Region 8-AAAAA game.

Marc Nellist notched the win for the Rams (9-7, 3-2) by going six innings with 10 strikeouts and seven hits allowed. Jeff Mitchell led the offense by going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs while Brad Blalock was 2-for-4 with two runs and Corey Lindsey went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run.

Dwayne Wong (0-3) took the loss for Meadowcreek (0-16, 0-4) but had a good night at the plate by going 3-for-3 with a single, double and triple.

Wesleyan 13, Banks Co. 0

NORCROSS - Chris Jensen went 2-for-3 with two home runs and five RBIs Friday night to help power Wesleyan to a 13-0 rout over Banks County in five innings in Region 8-AA play.

Tony Plagman also tripled and homered in two at-bats to drive in three runs while John Carr went 2-for-3 and scored twice. Adam Johnson pitched four scoreless innings with six strikeouts for the win.

Providence 12, Rabun Co. 1

TIGER - Providence picked up a Region 8-AA win Friday night by beating Rabun County 12-1 in six innings. Tyler Johnson (1-0) notched his first win by pitching four innings, allowing one run on three hits and a walk while striking out five.

Michael Webb led the offense, going 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs while Chris Waites was 3-for-4 and drove in three runs. Andy Vess also scored twice, going 2-for-2 with a solo homer. Providence improved to 16-2 overall and 10-1 in the region.

Killian Hill sweeps


LILBURN - Killian Hill won two games over Mount Vernon on Friday night, winning the opener 10-6 and taking the night cap 12-5.

Brad Whayne (3-1) struck out 10 in seven innings in Game 1 to notch the win. Drew Steckenrider had three hits while Paul Dedo had a homer an three RBIs and Aaron Parks was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

In Game 2, Steckenrider allowed two runs in four innings as Killian Hill won 12-5. Allan Bailey had five RBIs and a grand slam while Steckenrider went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a homer. Whayne also went 3-for-4 with four runs for Killian Hill (9-1, 5-1).


Peachtree Ridge 4,

Mill Creek 0

HOSCHTON - Peachtree Ridge received one goal each from Maggie Lisle, Grace Kwon, Ansley Whitehead and Molly Hanada in the Lions' 4-0 shutout over Mill Creek on Friday.

Lisle and Kwon also each had an assist as did Scarlett Butler and Juliana Malerba. Ashley Crowley had six saves at keeper in preserving the shutout for Peachtree Ridge (7-6-2, 5-4-1).

Brookwood 8, South 0

SNELLVILLE - Seven different Brookwood players scored at least one goal Friday night as the Broncos cruised past South Gwinnett 8-0.

Laura Phyfer scored two goals while Samantha Diaz-Matosas, Sarah Watkins, Chelsea Catlin, Emily Hughes, Natalie Douglas and Allison Auchter each scored one for Brookwood (7-4-1, 3-1-1). Megan MacKellar saved one shot at keeper for the shutout while Meagan Kell and Meghan Holder led a defense that allowed just two shots on goal.

Shiloh 15, Central 0

SNELLVILLE - Tara Pender, Ashley Sales and Stephanie Wordes each scored three goals Friday night as Shiloh (14-1-1, 5-0) cruised past Central Gwinnett 15-0 in Region 8-AAAAA action.

Norcross 2,

Chattahoochee 0

ALPHARETTA - Norcross picked up a big Region 7-AAAAA win by beating Chattahoochee 2-0 Friday night. Kate Tyler and Sofia Garuba scored once for Norcross (6-4-3. 3-2-3) while Nikki Dykes and Melissa Clarke each had assists. Erica Higuchi logged the shutout at keeper.

Parkview 10,

Meadowcreek 0

LILBURN - Jessica McDaniel scored three goals in Parkview's 10-0 win over Meadowcreek on Friday.

Also adding one goal each for Parkview (13-0-1) were Frawnie Espana, Laura Fitzgerald, Allison Bramlett, Ashley Baker, Emily Davis and Katie Branscomb.

Wesleyan 8, Rabun Co. 0

NORCROSS - Kasey Kaspar had four goals and an assist Friday night to help Wesleyan to an 8-0 win over Rabun County in the opening round of the Area 8-AA/A tournament. Wesleyan, which qualified for the state tournament, will play the Buford-Union County winner Tuesday in the region semifinals.

Sarah Moye added a goal and two assists while Chloe Kelly, Whitney Warren and Sarah Prehmus each scored a goal.

GAC 6, Lumpkin Co. 0

DAHLONEGA - Sarah Brummett had a hat trick Friday night in leading Greater Atlanta Christian to a 6-0 shutout over Lumpkin County in the first round of the Area 8-AA/A tournament. Jennifer Johnson added two goals and an assist while Sarah Gwyn had a goal and two assists as the Spartans earned a berth in the state tournament.

Gillian Potts and Lindsey Pimentel shared time at keeper for the shutout while Whitney Adams added an assist. GAC (10-4-2) travels to Providence on Tuesday for the region semifinals.

Providence 15,

Dawson County 1

LILBURN - The Providence Christian girls secured a state playoff berth and advanced to the Area 8-AA/A semifinals on Friday with a 15-1 rout of Dawson County. The fourth-ranked Stars (12-1-3) host Greater Atlanta Christian on Tuesday in the semifinals.

Sarah Jordan and Elizabeth Franklin scored three goals each in Friday's victory.

Winder-Barrow 6,

Hart Co. 0

HARTWELL - Katelyn Crane had two goals and an assist in Winder-Barrow's 6-0 shutout over Hart County on Friday night. Lauren Langford, Raquel Moon, Caitlyn Hentenaar and Brenna Sexton each added a goal for Winder-Barrow (8-4-2, 4-0-1) while keepers Laura Ginn and Kaylee Arther split duties for the shutout.


Parkview 4, Meadowcreek 0

LILBURN - David Burrell scored two goals to lead Parkview 4-0 over Meadowcreek Friday night. Chris Van Leer and Blake Brettschneider each added a goal while Wes Johnson and Josh Veal shared time at keeper for the shutout for the Panthers (14-0, 5-0).

Chattahoochee 0

ALPHARETTA - Otto Loewy booted home a pair of goals to help give fifth-ranked Norcross a 4-0 shutout of No. 2 Chattahoochee on Friday. Jose Mendez and Ivan Ramos each scored once while Alex Aranbayev had the shutout at keeper. Trent Hawk led the defense for Norcross (11-0-2, 6-0-2).

Mill Creek 1,

Peachtree Ridge 1

HOSHCTON - Mill Creek and Peachtree Ridge played each other to a 1-1 tie Friday.

Jorge Pradilla scored on a assist from Isaac Bargen for Mill Creek (5-8-2, 1-5-1) while Santiago Rios assisted Jason Hilton on the goal for Peachtree Ridge (4-5-7, 1-4-3).

Shiloh 2, Central 1

SNELLVILLE - Quasim Karimi and Brandon Mattix scored one goal each Friday night as Shiloh edged Central Gwinnett 2-1. William Pickard added an assist for Shiloh (4-9-3, 1-2-2).

South 0, Brookwood 0

SNELLVILLE - Brookwood and South Gwinnett battled to a 0-0 tie Friday night despite the Broncos getting 10 shots on goal.

Ryan Evans, Ben Dalziel, Wes Maynak and Brad Wills led the defense for Brookwood (6-1-5, 3-0-2), which did not allow South to get a shot on goal.

Berkmar 2, Grayson 0

GRAYSON - Miguel Rivera and Gabriel Ewolakuju each scored a goal Friday night as Berkmar blanked Grayson 2-0 on Friday night. Scott Johnson and Rivera each added an assist as Berkmar improved to 8-4-1 overall and 3-1-1 in Region 8-AAAAA.

Wesleyan 2, Lumpkin Co. 1

DAHLONEGA - Wesleyan earned a spot in the Class AA/A state playoffs with a 2-1 win over Lumpkin County Friday night in the opening round of the Area 8-AA/A tournament.

Brendan Patterson and Peter Karempelis each had a goal for Wesleyan (3-12) while keeper Collin DeNoya led the defense. Wesleyan will travel to Providence on Tuesday night for the area semifinals.

GAC 6, Banks Co. 0

NORCROSS - Danny Irizarry scored two goals to led Greater Atlanta Christian to a 6-0 shutout over Dawson County Friday night in the opening round of the Area 8-AA/A tournament. GAC (9-3-2) will face the Union County-Buford winner next Tuesday in the region semifinals.

GAC, which earned a spot in the Class AA state tournament with the win, also received one goal each from Marcus Hill, Andy Gentile, Nick Ramon and Sam Arthur.

Providence 5,

Dawson Co. 4 OT

LILBURN - Brian Fort scored in the sixth minute of the first overtime period to give Providence a 5-4 win over Dawson County in the opening round of the Area 8-AA tournament. Providence, which qualified for the state tournament, plays Wesleyan on Tuesday in the region semifinals.

Stephen Murray scored twice for Providence (8-4-1) while Jonathan Hull and Anselmo Heath each scored once.


Peachtree Ridge 4, Duluth 1

DULUTH - Peachtree Ridge logged wins at No. 1 singles from David Gillispie and No. 2 singles from Anthony Herro as the Lions went on to defeat Duluth 4-1 Friday at W.P. Jones Park. Jonathan Baggett took the No. 3 singles match for Duluth's point.

Winning in doubles play for the Lions were the team of Andrew Coleman and Jeff Teves and the duo of Chris Wade and Martin Minschwaner.


Peachtree Ridge 5, Duluth 0

DULUTH - Peachtree Ridge won all five matches against Duluth to blank the Wildcats 5-0 on Friday at W.P. Jones Park. Winning in singles play were Emma Knight, Jeni Thomas and Amanda Barnes.

Kala Jones and Chelsea Young added a win at No. 1 doubles while Paige Schwobe and Lauren Dobbins took the No. 2 doubles match.


Wesleyan 14,

Chattahoochee 4

NORCROSS - Wesleyan improved to 6-4 on Friday night with a 14-4 win over Chattahoochee. Allison Edwards led the Wolves with six goals while Allie Bagdy and Colleen Horne each scored three.
