Berkmar picks up big region win over Grayson

LOGANVILLE - Cody Anderson went 2-for-3 with a double as Berkmar beat Grayson 6-3 on Saturday. Michael McCree and Jacob Matheny both added two hits and an RBI for the Patriots.

Joe Hendricks pitched five innings, yielding five hits and three strikeouts to earn the win for Berkmar (7-7, 1-1), and Kellen Gross pitched the last two innings to get the save.

BASEBALL

GAC 9, Lumpkin Co. 5

DAHLONEGA - Taylor Wood scattered 10 hits in five innings as Greater Atlanta Christian defeated Lumpkin County 9-5 on Saturday. Landon Bennett was 3-for-5 with a double and five RBIs, Lee Chapple had three hits and an RBI and John Wood added two hits and two RBIs. Jason Cunningham pitched the last two innings, preserving the win for the Spartans (7-8, 4-4).

Hardaway 6, South 4

COLUMBUS - Hardaway of Columbus defeated South Gwinnett 6-4 on Saturday. Chandler Snell took the loss for the Comets (5-8, 1-1). Brent Portz was 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored, Neal Rollins added a double and Steven Currie had a hit, an RBI and scored a run.

Dacula 8, Alpharetta 3

DACULA - David Martin pitched six innings giving up four hits and striking out three batters as Dacula defeated Alpharetta 8-3 on Saturday. Jeremie Tice was 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, Shannon Wilkerson had two hits and three RBIs and Tait Poitevint added two hits in four at-bats for the Falcons (7-6).

Providence 13, Union Co. 3

BLAIRSVILLE - Chris Waites was 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored as Providence Christian defeated Union County 13-3 on Saturday. Zane Stephens had three hits, an RBI and a run scored, Collin McHugh had three hits in four at-bats and Michael Webb added a two-run home run. Ben Jackson pitched three innings, giving up a walk and three hits to earn the win for the Stars (13-2,7-1).

Killian Hill 8, Shiloh Hills 2

LILBURN - Allan Bailey pitched a complete game, yielding five hits while striking out nine batters and was 3-for-4 with a single, a double and a triple as Killian Hill Christian defeated Shiloh Hills Christian 8-2 on Saturday. Drew Steckenrider had a solo home run and a double in three at-bats and Brad Whayne added three hits and scored two runs for the Cougars (7-0, 3-0).

Duluth 7, Monroe Area 5

DULUTH - Andrew Martin went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and two RBIs as Duluth came from behind to defeat Monroe Area 7-5 on Saturday. Brad Hall had a home run and two RBIs, Kevin Newton had three hits, including a home run and Ross Book had a double and an RBI in four at-bats for the Wildcats (11-3).

Mill Creek 5, Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe 2

FORT OGLETHORPE - Mill Creek won its 10th-straight game, defeating Lakeview Fort Oglethorpe 5-2 on Saturday. Matt McNesse was 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored Spencer Ventrice had two hits and an RBI and Tyler Walton added two hits and an RBI in four at-bats for the Hawks (12-3).

Duluth 5, Shiloh 2

SUWANEE - Duluth defeated Shiloh 5-2 in the Power Cup tournament at Collins Hill on Saturday. Italo Cardoso scored two goals for the Wildcats (6-6-2), with Chad Davis, Andreu Harris and Tyler Hammack each adding a goal.

Peachtree Ridge 3, Clarke Central 2

SUWANEE - Jason Hilton scored two goals and Tommy McNaull added a goal as Peachtree Ridge edged Clarke Central 3-2 in the Power Cup tournament at North Gwinnett on Saturday.

Parkview 6, McCallie (Tenn.) 0

LILBURN - Parkview shutout McCallie, Tenn. 6-0 at the Southeastern Soccer Challenge on Saturday. Chris Van Leer had four goals and an assist with Mike Gondek and Clif Enowkekwa both adding a goal for the Panthers (13-0). Josh Veal earned the shutout at goalie for Parkview.

Collins Hill 3, North 1

SUWANEE - Collins Hill defeated North Gwinnett 3-1 in the finals of the Power Cup tournament at Collins Hill on Saturday. Miguel Pinzon scored two goals and was named tournament MVP. Timmy Jones added a goal for the Eagles.

GIRLS SOCCER

Parkview 5, Briarwood (Ala.) 1

LILBURN - Parkview defeated Briarwood, Ala. 5-1 at the Southeastern Soccer Challenge on Saturday. The Panthers (12-0-1), had individual goals scored by Marah Falle, Erin Colie, Mary Brugh, Kalan Hollowell and Jessica McDaniel.

Shiloh 4, Collins Hill 1

SUWANEE - Amber Harris scored two goals and Katie Dunn along with Tara Pender added goals as Shiloh defeated Collins Hill 4-1 in the finals of the Power Cup tournament at North Gwinnett on Saturday. Jessica Kalonji had two assists for the Generals (14-0-1).
