MOVIE REVIEW: Johnny Depp shines as the Mad Hatter in 'Wonderland'
Last Updated: 3:20 PM 03/04/10 - Even with the considerable advances in movie-making technology, there are only two directors in the world capable of delivering a satisfying 2010 version of “Alice in Wonderland” — Terry Gilliam and Tim Burton. Since this film was produced and distributed by Disney, Burton was the only choice. Both men are eccentric visionaries, but Burton has the better box office track record and, according to almost anyone that matters, is infinitely easier to work with. (Full Story) |

MOVIE REVIEW: 'Brooklyn's Finest' falls short of its ‘Training Day’ goal
Last Updated: 10:19 AM 03/04/10 - Recalling the heyday of Sidney Lumet and the early career of Martin Scorsese, director Antoine Fuqua’s new crime drama is a watered-down, East Coast variation on his far superior, L.A.-based “Training Day.” (Full Story) |

MOVIE REVIEW: ‘Crazies’ taps into America’s fear of infection

Last Updated: 4:09 PM 02/24/10 - Breck Eisner’s insane-in-the-membrane update of the George A. Romero cult horror movie “The Crazies” opens with a brief shot of fire, devastation and small-town apocalypse, followed by a title card that takes us back to the same Iowa farm community two days earlier. MOVIE REVIEW: ‘Shutter Island’ no Oscar contender but still fun to watch

Last Updated: 3:52 PM 02/18/10 - For his first live-action outing since winning his long-overdue Oscar for “The Departed,” director Martin Scorsese taps his encyclopedic knowledge of movie history and crafts a mishmash genre flick that practically defies categorization. (Full Story) |

MOVIE REVIEW: ‘Creation’ an engrossing look at Charles Darwin’s quest
0 Comments
Last Updated: 3:49 PM 02/18/10 - Giving a movie about Charles Darwin the title “Creation” is a supreme example of artistic irony (or twisted humor) and the first indicator that this film is going to take a lot of chances. (Full Story) |

MOVIE REVIEW: ‘Blood’ a Southern drama that is missing feeling
Last Updated: 3:45 PM 02/18/10 - Low-budget independent films have enough of an uphill battle trying to attract audiences. The last thing one of them needs is a title that is not only grammatically incorrect, but also suggests it’s a B-horror movie. (Full Story) |

MOVIE REVIEW: ‘White Ribbon’ a visually stunning thriller

Last Updated: 3:43 PM 02/18/10 - Unless art-house titles are the only movies you ever watch, you have no need (and likely no desire) to know anything about German filmmaker Michael Haneke (pronounced “Hanukkah,” like the holiday) or his movies. Perhaps more so than any other living director of importance, Haneke makes the kind of obtuse, egghead films mainstream audiences avoid at all costs — and for good reason. (Full Story) |
