Pullen parted ways for college baseball, but they’re already guiding their new teams to unprecedented success. Frazier won the National Christian College Athletic Association World Series title last week, earning the championship in the team’s first-ever appearance. Pullen and his Chattanooga State Community College team also qualified for its first trip to the National Junior College Athletic Association World Series, scheduled for this weekend in Grand Junction, Col. Machovec claims SEC shot put championship

Last Updated: 7:10 PM 05/21/10 - Israel Machovec racked up the titles as a high school thrower at Dacula. After last weekend, he now has a more substantial crown. The Georgia junior unleashed a winning shot put throw on his last attempt, winning his first Southeastern Conference championship in the Knoxville, Tenn., meet. His toss was a career-best 60 feet, 10 1/2 inches, bumping him to the No. 7 spot on the Bulldogs’ all-time list but more importantly rallying him past Florida’s Kemal Mesic and into the No. 1 spot. It also gained him a little national acclaim.The Peachtree Ridge grad was selected as the first recipient of the David Toms Award, given by the Golf Coaches Association of America to a men’s college golfer who has overcome adversity to acheive college excellence. Soon enough though, they were assigned as roommates by the Georgia College and State University baseball coaches. The Brookwood grad figured to be a contributor that spring, though his plate appearances would be scarce behind slugging first baseman Rich Poythress. Duluth grad Mason Norman, one of the most decorated athletes at Wingate University (N.C.) over his four-year career, still hadn’t won a national title. The All-American had posted seven national runner-up finishes in individual events and relays in his career, but never a first. (Full Story) |
