District 1 business tabled with Lasseter out

The board tabled all District 1 issues until Dec. 15, as Shirley Lasseter was not in attendance. Those issues included a special-use permit that would allow a Breckinridge Boulevard hotel to increase its height from three to five stories and a Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road/Riverside Parkway grocery store’s request to adjust its hours. County expects 30 more layoffs in ’09

The board approved a contract to outsource tax assessments of commercial properties. The contract, a negotiated $1.265 million each year, is expected to represent a $310,000 cost savings for personnel services. (Full Story)
Grayson to work with feds on SAVE

Last Updated: 6:56 PM 11/16/09 - GRAYSON — The Grayson City Council voted Monday night to adopt a memorandum of agreement with the federal government to cooperate in a program which ensures that only qualified aliens or naturalized citizens can receive retirement, health and disability benefits, among others.
Citizenship and immigration status information is verified under this program, called SAVE — Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements — mandated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. (Full Story)

Polling precints redrawn

Last week, commissioners approved the new map, which reduces the number of polling places from 163 to 155. It will save about $72,000 in 2010. (Full Story)
