Cut above the rest: Grayson culinary program receives certification
Last Updated: 7:19 PM 11/16/09 - The Grayson culinary arts program recently received industry certification from the American Culinary Federation, allowing students to leave the program with a junior certification from ACF and obtain college credit while in high school, said Chef Jennifer Booker, the program director.

Isakson to speak at GGC graduation

Last Updated: 7:20 PM 11/16/09 - LAWRENCEVILLE — U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson is slated to give the keynote address to Georgia Gwinnett College students who graduate in December.
The winter commencement will mark the college’s fourth graduation ceremony since its doors opened in 2006, and 40 students are expected to receive their diplomas. (Full Story)
Brenau, PCOM announce joint degree program

Last Updated: 7:13 PM 11/16/09 - SUWANEE — The Georgia campus of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and Brenau University announced Monday a joint program for medical students interested in building a repertoire of business skills.
The joint Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine/Master’s of Business Administration in health care management program will be open to first-year medical students at PCOM’s campus in Suwanee. The program will begin in the spring. (Full Story)

Students get unique biotech experience

Last Updated: 8:23 PM 10/28/09 - SNELLVILLE — In a lab Wednesday, students in Jonathon Wetherington’s biotechnology class added a gene to bacteria so the bacteria would produce a jellyfish gene that glows green.
This experiment wasn’t taking place on a college campus. It was happening at Brookwood High School, one of seven high schools in Georgia that is offering a biotechnology class this year.

Dyer students decorate pumpkins for United Way
Last Updated: 8:35 PM 10/26/09 - DACULA — You won’t find any plain orange gourds in this pumpkin patch.
The pumpkins that sit in the front lobby of J.G. Dyer Elementary School have all been decorated by students to resemble characters from children’s books or popular culture.
The annual pumpkin patch is a fundraiser for United Way. On Monday, a team of judges selected the top pumpkin for each grade level in the school. Today through Thursday, students will vote for their favorite out of the six by donating change in a pail in front of each pumpkin. The design that garners the most money will be named the school’s Pumpkin of the Year. (Full Story)
